Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Reviser will be responsible for the following duties:
• Revising translations covering a broad range of subjects dealt with by the United Nations. • Translating, mostly without revision, texts covering a broad range of subjects dealt with by the United Nations, particularly those subjects requiring experience and recognized proficiency. • Drafting, mostly without revision, summary records and serving as monitor of précis-writing teams. • Developing new terminology for use where none exists in the target language. • Carrying out linguistic research and preparing terminological bulletins and glossaries, technical vocabularies and related reference tools. • Counseling and assisting translators/précis-writers and briefing them on the procedures and practices of the Section, terminology and a broad range of subjects, as required. • Supervising the work of small groups of translators. • Performing other related duties as required. | |||||||

Education

A first-level degree from a university or from an institution of equivalent status; must have passed the United Nations Competitive Examination for French Translators.

Work Experience
| |||||||
A minimum of five years of experience in translation, précis-writing, and use of relevant computer software, electronic tools and databases, of which three preferably should have been in the United Nations.

Languages
| |||||||
A perfect command of French and an excellent knowledge of at least two other official languages. Knowledge of additional official and/or non-official languages would be an asset.
