The Swiss Red Cross (SRC) is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement - the world's largest independent humanitarian organization. The movement has three parts: the National Societies, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
SRC is starting up a country program in community based health and blood transfusion in Malawi, therefore we are looking for an experienced
Country Representative (CR)
to be based in Lilongwe, Malawi, with regular visits to the field.
The purpose of the assignment is to develop the new SRC country program and to design a three year project in collaboration with the Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) and to establish a base line. Upon completion of the planning process the CR will monitor the implementation.

• Establish and maintain productive partnerships with stakeholders by gaining their trust and respect and ensure that roles, responsibilities and reporting lines are clearly defined
• Assess community health concerns and needs in the districts chosen for the project
• Strive to ensure that ownership for the project is present among all stakeholders
• Ensure that planning and base line study are completed on time.

Requirements• University degree and post graduate qualifications in WASH or relevant work experience in WASH projects. An asset is knowledge in public health
• Minimum 3 years experience as programme manager in guiding non-profit organizations in the humanitarian and/or development sector and familiarity with community empowerment
• Speaks and writes clearly and effectively in English
• Diplomacy, team spirit and strong negotiation skills
• Sensitivity to cultural differences and ability to adapt to the context
• Knowledge and experience in participatory assessment/survey/evaluation methodology
• Familiarity with Red Cross Movement is an advantage.
Starting date: 1st October 2013 or as soon as possible
Duration of the contract: 3 months planning phase with prospect to extend for the project implementation for another 2 years
