ActionAid is an international anti-poverty agency formed in 1972. We are a partnership between people in poor and rich countries working together to end poverty and injustice. Today we are working with over 13 million of the world’s poorest and excluded people in over 40 countries worldwide to secure their rights to a life free of poverty and injustice, and with the support of half a million donors and supporters.
Your role will be to take our cutting edge Value for Money Project forward. By developing a better understanding of costs and results, the project will enable ActionAid members to make better informed, evidence based choices that bring greater improvements to the lives of people in poverty. As a member of the International Evaluation & Accountability Unit, you will be able to get involved in our general M&E at international level, spread news of the VFM project’s findings both within the organization and the sector, and raise the quality of reporting to institutional donors.
An impressive record in evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of non-profit interventions and reporting to large institutional donors is needed to meet our expectations. Such a background should highlight your analytical, conceptual and strategic thinking skills as well as your sound judgement. You must know how to exploit opportunities to meet specific goals. You also have to be used to managing complex international projects which demand working with others remotely and in different languages, and this should have made you adept at prioritising, influencing and using your initiative.
Academically, we’re looking for a Masters (or equivalent experience) in economics and/or development related social sciences with a strong research component. A deep understanding and commitment to human rights and knowledge of the methodologies which are effective in monitoring and evaluating Human Rights Based Approaches to programming are essential too. Good word processing skills and the ability to express yourself well in English should mean you know how to explain complex issues clearly and are able to build support for ActionAid across the federation and externally.
