Communications Manager - APOPO vzw Tanzania

APOPO trains rats to save lives. We are a social enterprise that researches, develops and disseminates detection rat technology for humanitarian purposes. We are a registered Belgian NGO, with our headquarters in Tanzania.

APOPO is looking for an enthusiastic, adaptable, and self-motivated communications professional who is willing to commit to the role of Communications Manager for two years. The successful applicant will be responsible for the management of a wide variety of non-profit communications for APOPO and the public campaign, HeroRAT, in line with the strategic goals of APOPO. This position is based in Morogoro, Tanzania.

ROLE PURPOSE

To connect donors and the general public with APOPO’s work, through effective management of the HeroRAT program;

To manage and further develop APOPO’s online communications;

To monitor, evaluate and manage media relations;

To help drive public fundraising for APOPO through communications.

The role includes: donor relations, public relations, website development and maintenance, social media and networking, newsletters, fundraising, campaign development, marketing and communication resources, media relations, and project management.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

BA or MA in Communications, Public Relations or equivalent Exceptional written and verbal communication skills Native English speaker Donor relations and fundraising experience Experience working in the non-profit sector Writing, editing and proof-reading skills Media relations experience Website CMS & e-commerce systems knowledge Skills in database management and analysis Strong IT knowledge Cross-cultural communication skills and cultural sensitivity Extraordinary patience, flexibility, independence, strong organizational skills, and a sense of humor Highly desirable: Previous experience living and working in a developing country.
