Social Performance Manager, Kampala Based

Tullow Oil is a leading independent oil & gas, exploration and production group, with interests in over 90 exploration and production licences across 22 countries in Africa, Europe, South Asia and South America. In Uganda, Tullow is about to embark on a major upstream development project in the Lake Albert Rift Basin.

As the company prepares for the next phase of development, Tullow is seeking to appoint a Social Performance Manager to oversee the assessment and management of socio-economic impacts associated with the development of this major infrastructure project within the Lake Albert Basin.

This role will be instrumental in supporting existing operations, ongoing exploration & appraisal activities, and future development planning to ensure socio-economic impacts associated with extractive industries are assessed, understood and appropriately managed. The position will be responsible for Tullow's stakeholder engagement activities within the Basin and will play a key role in ongoing issues management.

The successful candidate will be a member of the Leadership Team and report directly to the Tullow Uganda Business Unit Manager.

The ideal candidate will be degree qualified in humanities or social science and have at least eight years of experience within a community development or social performance role in extractive industries or major infrastructure development projects with significant social-economic management requirements. Previous experience in land access, resettlement and socio-economic impact assessment and management within the framework of the IFC Performance Standards and other international standards is essential. The candidate should be able to demonstrate an ability to integrate socio-economic risks into business and project planning activities. Experience in managing large and diverse teams across remote locations would also be beneficial. Previous experience of working in a developing country will also be essential.
