RRDO VACANCIES

Relief, Reconstruction and Development Organization (RRDO) is a local NGO registered under the NGO Coordination Act 1990 with its head office in Nairobi and Field Office in Dadaab.

RRDO is currently implementing Environment,Livelihoods, Water & Sanitation Programmes in Dadaab District, North Eastern Province.

RRDO with funding from Catholic Relief Services (CRS) under the Kenya Drought Recovery Program, wants to implement a one year Dadaab/Fafi Host Community Livelihoods Project with the goal; that drought affected pastoralists have their livelihood assets protected from the effects of drought.

This Project will directly target 1,744 drought affected households in Fafi and Dadaab Districts of Garissa County.

The project will support restoration of livestock assets and provide training to pastoralists in animal health, improved animal husbandry practices and marketing.

In order to implement the project successfully RRDO wishes to advertise the following positions based in Dadaab:
Position Vacant: Project Manager
Reporting to: Executive Director
Duty station: Dadaab
Deadline for application: 13th June 2012
Key Responsibilities
  • Effectively manage the project in line with the objectives, budget and time-frame laid down in the project document.
  • Ensure all project activities are geared towards delivery of RRDO’s strategic goals and objectives
  • Ensure that beneficiary participation is enhanced in all phases of the project.
  • Promote the participation of women at all levels and in line with the Project requirements
  • Ensure that the project is implemented according to RRDO and CRS guidelines and policies.
  • Coordinate a process of documentation that ensures that key processes, outputs and approaches are continuously documented and submitted (Monthly, quarterly and final reports) and ensure the reports are timely and of the highest quality.
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive activity plan covering the time frame of the project document.
  • Manage the M&E framework at field level by coordinating the regular collection, entry and analysis of data and fostering continuous learning and improvement.
  • Maintain a transparent, honest and supportive communication structure with RRDO staff team, CRS and with communities.
  • Be responsible for the safety and security of Project assets on site of operations.
  • Anticipate, plan, initiate and share in the further development of the project.
  • Manage all staff working under him/her in the project including, appraisal, management, general well-being, job descriptions and work schedules etc. and set clear objectives for staff and guide staff to develop their skills (capacity building).
  • Liaise with the Executive Director of RRDO in all critical aspects of the project implementation.
  • Capture evidence of program impact through identifying and writing success stories and capturing beneficiary voices.
  • Participate in DSG, Host Community Coordination (HC) and all other relevant stakeholder meetings.
  • Document best practice and the challenges encountered during the project period and promote learning
Qualifications, experience and skills
  • Degree in Social Sciences, Environmental Science, Project Management including extensive relevant experience in livelihoods & water engineering.
  • Masters degree in environment, natural resource management or related field will be an added advantage.
  • Sound knowledge of livelihoods and/or food security, livestock market systems, community water systems, environmental & sustainability/rehabilitation issues will be required.
  • At least 5 years demonstrated experience in emergency livestock interventions using voucher systems, market systems & community water systems preferably within the NGO sector.
Position Vacant: Monitoring and Evaluation Officer
Reporting to: Project Manager
Duty station: Dadaab
Deadline for application: 13th June 2012
Key Responsibilities
  • Support the process of planning, facilitating, reviewing and developing the Programme Strategy
  • Establish and support implementation of monitoring and evaluation system using approved tools for identifying and tracking the indicators and targets to measure progress and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Coordinate and follow the smooth running of project monitoring, evaluation and reporting activities.
  • Define Monitoring and Evaluation plan for the project and ensure adherence by project teams through regular visits to field.
  • Organize project staff trainings in the areas of: data collection, effective use of data collection tools, data analysis and proper use of data for decision making.
  • Keep track of regular and timely submission of reports following the internal and donor deadlines.
  • Take lead in data collection, entry, cleaning and validation to ensure quality and consistency; compile and disseminate reports in appropriate formats as needed for project planning and progress reviews and/or as per donor and RRDO requirements.
  • Assist in organizing exchanges visits, trainings and Seminars for knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to a wide organizational learning process by preparing forums for disseminating data, lessons learned, best practices, qualitative evidence provided by activities implemented in the field.
  • Develop an appropriate documentation and dissemination system related to the various activities of the project.
Qualifications, experience and skills
  • University degree in social science, development planning or related technical field.
  • Training in Designing, Monitoring and Evaluation of humanitarian programmes.
  • Sound experience in coordination of data collection and analysis• At least 3 years experience in similar position in the NGO sector.
Position Vacant: Livelihood Officers

2 Positions

Reporting to: Project Manager
Duty station: Dadaab

Key Responsibilities
  • Planning, implementation and reporting of the project activities in accordance with the project document.
  • Ensure that beneficiary participation is enhanced in all phases of the project.
  • Promote and ensure the participation of women at all levels and in line with the Project requirements
  • Anticipate, plan, initiate and share in the further development of the current project.
  • Responsible for Planning, coordinating and conducting community trainings, awareness and assessments.
  • Conduct research and surveys related to livelihood interventions according to community needs assessment.
  • Liaise with the Project Manager and other staff in implementing the comprehensive project activity plan covering the time frame of the project proposal.
  • Mobilize communities and local markets to identify the livestock owners and vendors for each community.
  • Conduct regular monitoring, evaluation and assessments against project objectives and outputs.
  • Produce accurate and timely reporting of activities to the Project Manager on weekly, monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Maintain a transparent, honest and supportive communication structure with RRDO staff team, CRS and with communities
  • Work closely with the community, DLPO, DWO AND DVO to identify the most vulnerable households to be targeted, using a transparent, criteria-based process
  • Prepare monthly/Quarterly narrative and financial reports based on CRS guidelines
  • Participate in the Identification and training of Community Based Animal Health Workers on Livestock Emergency Guidelines
  • Participate in distribution of vouchers to beneficiaries before the livestock fairs
  • Work with relevant stakeholders in the preparation of the livestock fair
  • Continuously monitor the work of the CAHWs during the project period
  • Mobilize traders, vendors and beneficiaries to effectively participate in the market fairs
  • Identity and participate in capacity strengthening for WUAs in the respective project areas
  • Continuously monitor the work of the WUAs and water technicians during the project period
  • Document best practice and the challenges encountered during the project period and promote learning.
Qualifications, experience and skills
  • Degree in BSc with specialized qualification in livelihoods/food security, marketing and project management.
  • At least 3 years experience in livestock based livelihoods systems in an NGO environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in community mobilization & households surveys.
