Context/Scope:
The company operates in a region of high competition in terms of product quality and cost. To meet this challenge, varieties of brands were developed to suit the market demands and are brewed and packaged to world-class standards.
Procurement ensures that
• Goods / services purchased meet EABL requirements on quality, service and Corporate Citizenship
• Purchasing processes / procedures comply with Diageo standards, and
• Purchasing is done to add value to Diageo – through improved cost efficiency, greater effectiveness of inputs (e.g. media) or innovation
The range of goods and services we procure covers a broad range – Capital Equipment, new IS systems, packaging/raw materials, POS material, Sponsorship of events, mobile phones, air travel and catering services to name a few!
The incumbent will work closely with EAM(U) for the validation and implementation of company’s procurement strategy for local raw materials. S/he will optimise the total cost of ownership and reduce stock level. S/he will also work closely with Group Category Manager for Local Raw Materials and corporate responsibility Teams
Externally, the incumbent works with regional and local suppliers, farmers group, land owners and ensure total control over the supply chain from farms to plant, while ensuring the best total value.

Market Complexity:
The supply market is complex and volatile due to local legislation, tax incentive versus material availability, monopoly in some of the products we purchase and entrance of competition for some materials we are buying. The company imports about 70% of its total requirements. Most of the local suppliers have very low capabilities
The Company has very ambitious goals for 2013 and beyond. Procurement has to play its part in delivering target Saving over the next 3 years.
The company has a large supplier base and is user specification driven. But there is clearly a high vendor related risk link to low capabilities and contract coverage
The procure to pay process although supported by SAP is still not optimum and need improvement
This calls for a step change towards effective and proactive procurement strategies for sourcing, introduction of modern and best practice of Supplier management for amazing supplier relationships in order to afford the company an upper hand in competition.
Purpose of Role:
To Define and execute Local Raw Material strategy, with linkage to EAM(U) and Group Category Manager for LRM.
Lead both Sourcing and supplier management activities to the highest standards. Engage in performance review, projects and supply initiatives to deliver value for the business.
TOP 3-5 Accountabilities
• Assure availability of Local Raw Materials – in the right quality and price.
• Effective Risk Management and governance of all suppliers
• Build Key relationship for value with Key suppliers in the category
• Focus on innovation and deliver innovative ideas through Suppliers Innovation forum
• Guide the business regarding market opportunities by keeping informed on the trends.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
Qualifications
Bachelor degree in Agriculture, or related field.
CIPS will be an added advantage.
Experience
Working experience with agri-business.
Experience in procurement will be an added advantage.
