Africare is implementing a five year (2011-2016), USAID funded program to Improve the Nutrition Status of Women and Children in Tanzania. Interventions are geared towards reduction of maternal anemia and stunting. Implementation regions are Morogoro, Dodoma and Manyara. The program will focus on strengthening the capacity of Tanzanian institutions to implement a well designed Social Behavior Change and Communication Strategy, to implement evidence-based interventions in the targeted regions and to document lessons learned to support scale up in support of the Implementation Plan for the National Nutrition Strategy. The program has an office in Dar Es Salaam and will have a team in each of the three regions. Africare is implementing the program in partnership with COUNSENUTH, an indigenous Tanzania Organisation with expertise in all nutrition related areas, Deloitte and The Manoff Group. We are seeking a Deputy Director of Implementation (DDI) for the Mwanzo Bora Nutrition Program. Role: The DDI will partner with the Chief of Party to provide overall program design, implementation and management for activities related to reduce stunting, maternal anemia and manage short-term technical assistance in three target regions and Zanzibar. The DDI will also provide strategic direction and technical guidance to regional teams for this community based nutrition program.
Responsibilities:
Provide strategic technical and program management, planning related to nutrition social and behavior change interventions at district and community levels.
Supervise project staff, convene internal meetings and facilitate structured team communication and accountability via information sharing
Create technical resource materials including guidelines, orientation and training manuals and curricula; enabling staff to successfully implement interventions and manage human capacity strengthening at all levels, specifically district and community levels.
Contribute to reports, concept notes, work plans, budgets and other materials to support the design and implementation of nutrition programs.

Document implementation progress and submit success stories for use in policy dialogue and advocacy, and information sharing with donor, other stakeholders and HQ
Serve as program liaison building consensus on technical approaches with key nutrition partners and USAID implementing partners.
Manage technical assistance to partners, including support for coordination mechanisms and policies, strategies, action plans and operational plans; represent the program at policy, technical, strategic meetings and at events.
Interface with relevant Government of Tanzania authorities, including regional and local government authorities to discuss, manage and support implementation of the Mwanzo Bora nutrition program.

Requirements:
Experience in programming for improved maternal and child health, nutrition or HIV/AIDS programs and activities in Africa. Experience working in Tanzania is an added advantage.
Advanced degree in nutrition, public health, organizational development, management or related field
Experience with strategy development and program design
Excellent communication skills and proven ability to write technically for a range of audiences
Ability to produce polished written documents in a short time.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.Highly desirable
Experience with USAID-funded activities, particularly nutrition, food security and health programs
Swahili language capacity
Compensation:
