Project/Proposal Summary:
MSI was awarded a three-year contract with USAID/Sudan on a project named SUPPORT (Services Under Program and Project Offices for Results Tracking), and tasked with the responsibility of executing functions normally associated with USAID’s Program and Communications offices. As a part of the SUPPORT project, MSI hiring technical and support staff, assisting USAID with logistics, and facilitating VIP visits. Position Summary: The purpose of this assessment is to document and ascertain the possibilities that exist to program economic recovery and market systems/livelihood development programs in Darfur. The assessment team will look at the current livelihood options of the internally displaced in Darfur and current emergency livelihood programming and its effectiveness. If applicable, the team members will then make concrete recommendations for programming and develop scopes of work for small, discreet projects to be used as a trial for future programming. This short-term assignment is for approximately 25 LOE days between September 2011 and October 2011. This position is for Sudanese nationals only.
Responsibilities: • Produce a report for USAID/Sudan on Darfur that: 1) Maps out the current emergency and humanitarian livelihood activities; 2) Updates and summarizes the status of core livelihood activities in Darfur, 3) Identifies gaps and significant achievements of current assistance, 4) Examines the appropriateness of USAID programmatic assistance; and 5) Recommends immediate and long-term actions toward future USAID assistance to livelihoods in Darfur.
Qualifications: • Bachelors Degree and/or Masters Degree preferred. • Relevant work experience in agriculture and/or food assistance. • Must be a citizen of Sudan. • Familiar with the Darfur context and operational environment. • Excellent verbal, writing, and communications skills. • Demonstrated ability to work in teams and challenging environment. • Knowledge of local Darfur dialect preferable. • Fluency in English.
