VACANCY– Programme Funding Manager, East Africa

We are seeking to recruit an experienced and dynamic fund raising and development professional to be based in Nairobi with regular travel to project sites in the East Africa Region.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Actively researching possible new funding opportunities that might be relevant to Traidcraft’s East Africa programme
- Working with programme staff and partners in the development of high quality programmes and project ideas in line with Traidcraft’s regional strategy
- Providing advice and guidance to the Regional Director and programme staff on project ideas and design from a funder’s perspective
- Facilitating an effective project design process with the active involvement of beneficiaries, programme and partner staff
- Leading / coordinating statutory and non-statutory funding bids for Traidcraft’s East Africa regional programme, working in close liaison with the UK-based Programme Funding team
- Writing and editing funding proposals to meet donor requirements, including developing project log frames and budgets Researching, coordinating and writing/compiling funding applications to statutory and non-statutory funding organisations
- Supporting or leading on multi-country/corporate programme funding opportunities
- Working closely with the Regional Director, nurturing and managing relationships with donor organisations, creating opportunities to share Traidcraft’s programme experience with donor staff.
- Maintaining up to date information on PADOR and IATI with regards to funder information and proposals submitted
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- You’ll have an advanced university degree in the relevant field and experience of international development sector especially in East Africa region.
- You’ll have recent experience of developing successful funding applications for institutional donors including experience of developing project log frames, budgets, participatory project design, and use of analytical tools. In addition it will be good if you will have thematic experience in livelihoods programmes and projects designed to link producers to markets.
Essential Skills and Aptitudes:
- You’ll have strong language, both English and Swahili, and numeracy skills, including excellent written report writing skills.
- You’ll have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to liaise confidently and diplomatically with donors and colleagues (including those at a distance).
- You will have excellent interpersonal skills, including good questioning and listening skills and ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences including proven ability to compile and effectively summarize large quantities of written information.
- You will have a strong critical and analytical thinking ability including ability to interrogate and manipulate data with a strong attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
- You’ll be proficient in the use of computers, including Microsoft office
