CARANA Corporation, together with consortium of partners, is bidding an anticipated upcoming USAID funded Tanzania Horticulture Value Chain Activity - MBOGA MATUNDA project. The purpose of the resulting contract for the MBOGA MATUNDA Program is to acquire technical services to increase the competitiveness and inclusiveness of the horticulture subsector, while improving the nutritional status of Tanzanians by: (1) scaling improved technologies and practices that lead to the increased productivity of smallholders, including large numbers of women and youth, in targeted commodities; (2) scaling market system models able to reach large numbers of direct and indirect beneficiaries, including vulnerable populations, while increasing trade for targeted commodities; and (3) strengthening the overall capacity of the industry.
Responsibilities:
The Market Linkages Specialist will have the overall responsibility of providing strategic guidance and management for the all the project interventions relating to accessing markets and creating closer commercial relationships between producers and buyers. S/he will also be required to establish and manage relationships with potential horticulture buyers, lead firms, and stakeholders in the various interventions related to increasing access to markets, in addition to promoting the inclusion of women and youth participation. The Market Linkages Specialist will identify and design potential interventions and develop strategies for implementing these interventions. S/he will be responsible for ensuring strong linkages between the market linkages and the Results Measurement team of the project.
Specific duties include the following:
• Identify new horticulture markets linkages with the aim of contributing to the overall project strategy.
• Conduct targeted research on new markets, potential buyers and investors, product trends, marketing strategy, etc.
• Identify and establish strategic partnerships within the market and play a leading role in managing all established partnerships.
• Provide technical assistance and support to smallholder agricultural producers in developing commercial relationships with end-buyers.
• Organize and support Tanzanian producer groups, cooperatives or SMEs in participating in developing formal structured trading arrangements with regional and international buyers.
• Link producer groups with market information on prices, volumes, and growth market segments.
Qualifications:
• A Bachelor’s degree or similar qualification in Business, Marketing, Economics or Development Studies is required. A Master’s degree or similar qualification is desirable.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in implementing and managing projects with at least one year spent on the field on market research community projects.
• Experience in business strategy development with focus on agricultural value chain analysis.
• Previous data analysis experience using Microsoft Excel or any other data analysis tool;
• Knowledge of the institutions and organizations and/or businesses that provide market support services to the agricultural sector in Tanzania.
• Previous supervisory/managerial responsibilities within a dynamic team.
• Direct experience in marketing, export development and relationship management.
• Strong English speaking and writing skills.
