International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs.

PROGRAM BACKGROUND The Public Health Advisor will provide technical advisory support to approximately six country health programs in partnership with HQ and country program staff. Currently, the health technical team consists of 19 full and part-time staff based in US, UK offices or global roving positions. The specialist advisors address the broader social determinants of health inclusive of: reproductive health, gender based violence, mental health, water and sanitation with monitoring and evaluation as cross-cutting. This position is intended to complement the specialist expertise by ensuring effective design, implementation and monitoring of quality public health programs based on best practice in response to the major health burdens affecting targeted countries/ populations.
JOB SUMMARY
This is a senior technical position that will support International Medical Corps health programs in areas such as Central Africa Region among others. The consultant will provide virtual and onsite technical assistance to country programs in the area program design, implementation, and evaluation; as well as link country teams with specialized technical assistance from other health technical unit team members as needed.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Development
•Support the development of health assessments, design, planning, implementation and monitoring of programs including public health/health services, health system strengthening, and infectious disease interventions; •Provide technical input for new proposals, reports and external communications for International Medical Corps global.
Project Technical Assistance
•Support health personnel recruitment (short-listing and interviewing) of public health candidates; •Support the response to health related requests and enquiries from country programs by undertaking relevant research and capacity building of team members through remote support; •Perform other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS Advanced degree in Public Health or similar; • At least 7 years’ experience implementing International Health field programs covering a range of humanitarian, transition and development programs. Demonstrated experience in health programming at HQ level; • Good knowledge of US or European donors (PRM, OFDA, DFID, EU etc), including regulations, policies and requirements specific to the health sector; • Specialist knowledge of infectious diseases, health system strengthening; • Excellent communication skills with an ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
LANGUAGES • Ability to speak fluently in English and French as well as write • Ability to travel around 40 - 60% of the time
