consultant: designing training modules for Médecins du Monde’s Sexual and Reproductive Health projects

MdM is looking for A consultant: editing and developing technical fact sheets for designing training modules for Médecins du Monde’s (MdM - Doctors of the World) Sexual and Reproductive Health projects.
1/ Background
Médecins du Monde (MdM) has been carrying out sexual and reproductive health (SRH) projects since numerous years. Today, MdM is developing SRH projects in more than 20 countries. This gives the organization a certain expertise in relation to this subject. Since 2010, SRH has become one of the four priorities for the organization which wants to continue to improve the quality of their SRH programs in order to meet, in the best way possible, the needs of the populations.
Training and capacity building is included in nearly all the MdM projects and is often a key activity within the MdM projects. In sexual and reproductive health projects, training is targeting health professionals, key players within the community or other key players (local association members, peer educators, etc) who play a role in achieving the project objectives and in the quality of the services offered.
It can be seen nevertheless that few MdM staff are professional trainers. So, few MdM staff have knowledge of instructional design or training methodology. Also, the content of the training module is rarely based on shared or consistent “technical” information/content and is developed rather individually on the basis of each person’s experiences.
Knowing that, the idea is (as part of a « SRH program Agreement » between MdM and AFD ) to carry out work on the contents, approaches and methodology relating to SRH training, in order to support the international MdM projects.
Similar work will be carried out in relation to the training connected with harm reduction projects. These two projects will be carried out at the same time by two different consultants and will require a certain degree of co-ordination.
2/ Main objective
In the framework of this consultancy - dealing with the quality and content of SRH training designed to support international programs - MdM wants to create technical fact sheets on the key topics relating to sexual and reproductive health.
The main objective of this consultancy work is to draft (in close collaboration with the SRH advisor at the MdM head office and various people involved in the SRH projects at MdM) 12-15 specifications sheets on various aspects of the SRH projects (examples: SRH and adolescents, SRH and gender, human rights, prevention and care of unwanted pregnancies, PMTCT counseling, fistula care, etc…). These technical fact sheets will be practical tools for the MdM teams to develop training sessions dealing with the various aspects selected. They will have to include, apart from the main messages on the contents, propositions relating to facilitation techniques (role playing exercises, group exercises etc) and advice on timing and pedagogical methods.
3/ Contents of the consultancy work
In order to carry out this the consultant will be required to:

  • Draw up with the MdM SRH advisor a list of technical technical fact sheets that have to be prepared
  • Put forward a work schedule for the development of the sheets and for the various proofreading and translation tasks
  • Prepare the various technical fact sheets - incorporating propositions on how to develop a training and ideas on facilitation techniques
  • Supervise the proofreading tasks, the translation and the design of the technical fact sheets, in accordance with the budget allocated.
All these stages will be carried out in collaboration with the MdM SRH advisor
