Overview of the Position Our client’s Somalia office is one of the few offices involved in capital assistance, as well as more traditional technical assistance activities. As reflected in the procurement profiling for our client’s Somalia office, the country office has increased the volume and scope of rehabilitation and construction works in Somalia, including construction and rehabilitation in South/Central Somalia, These capital infrastructure development activities has taken the form of rehabilitation and new construction of such facilities as Police Academies, Prisons, Ministry Buildings, Market Places, Health Clinics and other facilities in many sectors.
Within this context, our client’s Somalia office would like to acquire architectural consultancy services to provide architectural and structural design of government buildings launched by our client in Somalia.
Objectives Our client requires the services of architectural consultancy to provide detailed project preparations including architectural & structural designs, cost estimations of building projects. The consulting firm shall work under the overall supervision of Procurement Unit (PU) of our client and liaise with the programme officials another other stake holders.
General Functions The Consultant, will work closely with the PU and concerned Programme Manager, ensuring that works are carried out to specific standards and that any problems that arise are quickly resolved. The tasks of the Consultant include, but may not be limited to, the following: • Meeting with the requesting unit and study the requirements of Government departments and prepare the draft line diagram drawing for preliminary approval, • Visit to the proposed project sites as and when required, • Make market survey to know about the availability of building materials in the local market, • Upon approval, develop the detailed architectural drawings/detailing, water supply and sanitation details and submit for final approval, • While designing proper consideration to be given on the green effect aesthetics (environment friendly) to the buildings, maintenance free finishes and use of local resources as far as possible,
• Prepare the detailed structural drawings, electrical & telephone cable layout drawings, ICT cabling layouts and Bill of Quantities with detailed cost estimation, • Prepare the replies of the pre-bid meeting questions from the prospective bidders, • Keeping within financial budgets and deadlines, • Solving problems that might occur during the implementation of projects and issue modifications/alterations if any, • Submit detailed report
Monitoring and Progress controls • Our client’s Procurement Unit/Chief Engineer would monitor the progress of Consultants activities.
Final product/deliverable • Submit preliminary reports with preliminary plans and rough cost estimations – 3 copies • Submit a comprehensive report including detailed architectural & structural drawings, water supply, drainage and sanitation layouts, electrical & tele cabling layouts, ICT trunking details and detailed bill of quantities, cost estimation considering all components of the works. – 3 copies (soft and hard)
Review/approval time • One month after receiving of each report.
Essential Experience • B.Sc. degree in Architecture from an accredited university, • Membership of the relevant professional chambers or associations, • Proven minimum of 10 years of professional experience, • Proven minimum of 5 years of field experience in similar projects with focus on restoration/urban upgrading funded by international community, • Proven experience in the use of software for technical drawings, • High proficiency with computers in particular Auto card, Chief Architect MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point
Languages • Fluency in English (written, reading, spoken)
