Save the Children UK is transitioning management of its country based operations to Save the Children International’s operational arm, international programmes (SCiP). The countries are transferring to SCI in a phased transition which started with the Asia and Pacific region in mid 2011 with a view to all regions being fully transferred by the end of 2012. East Africa countries are due to start the transition by September 2012.
Save the Children UK has been working intensively on issues related to this transition since the final quarter of 2009 and has set up structures and business processes in its headquarters to interface with SCI and ensure the grant, funding and technical assistance elements are in place so that SCI is able to effectively deliver programmes on behalf of members. Regionally focussed teams have been established in the Save the Children UK headquarters to manage this interface between ourselves and SCI.
It is envisaged that the East Africa Regional Desk will consist of 4 members: a Head of Regional Desk, a Senior Desk Officer and 2 Desk Officers. The exact division of roles, responsibilities and geographical coverage between the Desk Officers is yet to be determined and a degree of flexibility will be required as the workload and priorities emerge.
Job Purpose
To support the East Africa Head of Desk in developing SCUK’s strategic relationship in the SCI managed countries in the region including programme implementation and grant management. The post holder is likely to focus on countries where SCUK has existing high value/ risk contracts and will also take a lead in the identification of new funding and programme development opportunities for priority countries (to be determined) in line with the key breakthrough areas and vision expressed in Ambition 2015.
