Role:Quality Analyst
Purpose of the Role:
To provide quality assurance for beer at Filtration and packaging through analysis and effective process control measures.
• To carry out all Inspection tests to assure beer Product Quality at Filtration and Packaging so as to ensure high quality products that meet customer satisfaction.
• To ensure all beer produced meets Diageo quality requirements at Filtration prior to Bottling.
• To ensure all beer bottled meets Diageo Quality requirements prior to the palletizer in accordance to Project P2C Requirements.
• To ensure Diageo procedures are followed during Filtration and Packaging of beer (product disposition and concessions)
• To implement new developments relating to Quality in area of jurisdiction.
• Accountability for all Quality Defects generated during shift production, before the Palletizer.
• Mandated to stop the line if beer produced does not meet Diageo Quality Requirements.
CONTEXT
• UBL operates in a market, which is dominated by a wide mix of product brands. It is important that UBL maintains the lead in the Quality of its products in order to remain competitive and to maintain the DIAGEO brands reputation.
• UBL has established Quality, Food safety, environmental and Occupational health and Safety policies that ensure effective management of Quality, Food safety, environment and Occupational health and Safety. These policies have to be protected to ensure total control and Brand Protection at all times.
KEY OUTPUTS
CHEMICAL ANALYSIS
Beer product analysis at Filtration and Packaging.
• Monitoring process parameters critical to Quality at filtration and Packaging.
• Maintain equipment in Good working condition (calibration) relating to all analyses.
MICROBIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS
• Carry out plant hygiene inspections.
• Sampling for microbiological analysis, where applicable (pasteurization issues)
MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS:
• Releasing beer in SAP on time as per Project P2C requirements.
• Compliance to DIAGEO and UBL systems (Quality, Food Safety and LTO) policies and procedures.
• Mandated to stop the Bottling line when Quality of beer is at risk until all problems are sorted out.
REPORTING:
• Produce and a shift report for analytical data on a shift basis.
• Report all threats to Quality and Food safety to the Quality manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
• A Higher Diploma/BSc. Degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry or Food science & Technology or related equivalent
• Associate Member of the Institute of Brewing Exams. Diploma in Brewing is an added advantage.
SKILLS /KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge in microbiology, hygiene, quality assurance techniques.
• Knowledge in Management Systems, which include Quality, Food safety, Occupational health and Safety and Environment.
• Investigative and trouble shooting skills.
• Written and Oral communication skills.
• Computer literacy.
• A thorough knowledge of statistical methods in quality and process control.
• Conversant with Production Processes in Brewing, Packaging and Engineering.
• Technical/Analytical skills.

• At least 3 years in a busy Quality Control Laboratory.
