Contract Details: Two year contract, unaccompanied
Salary Details: Monthly allowances as follows: €20,731 per annum while located in Dublin during the 1st three months; €9,096 per annum while overseas during months 4-12; €18,950 per annum while overseas during months 13-24. Overseas assignments include pre-departure preparations, flights, insurance, accommodation and any relevant hardship or expensive country allowances.
Main duties & Responsibilities: At headquarters: Purpose: To gain exposure to and an understanding of key systems and approaches that are fundamental to managing an emergency project in Concern. This will be achieved through shadowing a number of key staff members in different departments.
•Assist desk officers to deliver quality support for emergency programming. This may include supporting applications for funding; supporting grant management; compiling information briefs and assisting with general desk administration; •Shadow system support staff; with a particular emphasis on procurement; finances and human resources. As part of this process day to day tasks will be assigned as relevant; •Learn about Concern’s sector programme’s and approaches; specifically to learn about Concern’s approach to emergencies; security management; accountability commitments and managing in Concern; •Carry out other small projects related to Concern’s work in emergencies; •Participate in trainings and workshops as requested.
In the field: Purpose: To apply knowledge from time spent in Dublin in a programme setting and to gain on the ground experience of implementing activities in an emergency context.
•Support programme management to oversee the day to day management of logistics, administration, human resources and finance in line with organisational policy and procedures; •Support programme management to oversee the day to day management of security with a focus on gaining an understanding of how security management plans are updated and rolled out in programme locations; •Support programme implementation (specific tasks will be identified once country of assignment is known; tasks could include assisting with distributions of food, assisting with camp management; assisting with assessments/surveys; assisting with cash transfers etc.); •Support the development of funding applications and the management of grants; including report writing as required; •Participate in trainings and workshops as requested.
Outputs expected: •Prepare a report at the end of the 1st three months, end of first year and end of second year reflecting on experiences and lessons learned; •Other smaller specific outputs will be agreed at the outset with the Trainee’s mentor; •Show evidence of gaining emergency programming and management skills through the performance development review process.
Person specification: Essential Criteria Knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications •Undergraduate or Master’s degree in related topic; examples include politics science; international development; humanitarian assistance etc.; •Interested in developing a career in working in the humanitarian sector; •Knowledgeable about current issues and trends in international politics; •Excellent spoken and written English and French; •Some experience of working in a developing country; •Demonstrated ability in the following core competencies: 1) to manage oneself well in often difficult circumstances, 2) to communicate and work well with others in a team and 3) to deliver results.
