Interact Worldwide is currently recruiting for a Programme Manager, Africa position. The post is a dynamic one, the purpose of which is to play a central role in the development and delivery of strategy, including project identification, proposal development, management and monitoring & evaluation of SRH&Rs projects and programmes, and bidding for and managing the delivery of SRH&Rs contracts.
Essential facets of the role include assessment and provision / management of appropriate, high quality capacity building and technical assistance inputs to our southern partners, the on-going development of our partnership network, supporting the personal development of any interns that you may be managing and contributing to the on going development of knowledge building, quality management and strategy.
An important element of the role will be to support the capacity and skills development of partner staff to effectively develop, manage and report on SRH&R programmes whilst taking primary reporting responsibility for a specified portfolio of projects. The post holder will be expected to effectively represent Interact Worldwide at country and UK levels working to enhance our reputation as a credible, reliable partner in development. The position requires regular and extended travel outside the UK.
Key Accountabilities Key Elements Management of Programmes • Identify and develop strategic priorities and operational plans at the sub-national, national and regional levels, in collaboration with partners and other stakeholders, colleagues in the programmes team and other colleagues at Interact Worldwide.
• Manage all stages of the project cycle, including situation analyses, project and partner identification, project design, budgeting and resource mobilisation, negotiation and contracting, detailed needs assessment, baseline and planning, appropriate monitoring, feedback and project development, timely and accurate financial and narrative donor reporting in accordance with contract requirements, mid and end line evaluation and financial audit, and dissemination of lessons learnt.
• Periodic monitoring and/or capacity building visits • Liaise, consult and negotiate between partners and donors.
• Manage participatory assessment of technical and capacity building needs of partners and projects. Deliver agreed technical and project management support from London and in the field; identify and contract appropriate technical, research or consultancy inputs to projects or programmes in the Africa region • Working to find solutions to project implementation problems • Ensuring that all donor administration and procedures are met • Overseeing Country Programme Advisors, Finances Technical Advisor and other consultants as needed • Keeping abreast of any changes to donor’s requirements and information needs • Contributing to project implementation, if necessary Resource Identification,
Representation and Negotiation • Submit proposals for funding to donors in collaboration with partners and country advisors • Develop and maintain awareness of key donors’ and other important stakeholders’ policy priorities, procedures, technical approaches, and contact information for the key focus countries in the region in which you are working.
• Liaise with donors in relation to existing and proposed projects and programmes.
• Work to heighten Interact Worldwide’s profile in the SRH&Rs sector, and more broadly.
• Contribute to the maintenance and on going development of beneficial partnerships, alliances and technical resources, on behalf of the Africa region.
• Negotiate contracts for new projects, project extensions, and the procurement of technical, consultancy or other support services.
Internal Liaison and Information Provision • Provide information pertaining to Africa, and to other parts of the organisation, as required.
• Liaise with the Finance & Administration and Fundraising Departments and Interact Worldwide team members and supporters, including volunteers, members and trustees, as required.
• Developing and maintaining positive relations with Plan field staff and partners, ensuring that programme information is available for donors and that Plan field staff understand and are better able to fulfil their role in meeting the donor’s priorities and project reporting requirements · Pro-actively sharing knowledge and experience of Interact’s work overseas and with other Plan UK staff and with its staff worldwide · Attending regular team meetings and contributing to the overall smooth operation of the department · Keeping up to date with the major issues and solutions pertaining to SRH&R Personal and Team Development · Identify your personal training and career development needs, and ways to address them, in conjunction with the Head of International Programmes.
· Manage, motivate, facilitate and support the personal development of any interns for whom you are responsible.
· Contribute to identifying, developing and maintaining a relevant technical, institutional and contextual information and knowledge base for the region,
· Contribute to effective learning within the programme,
· Participate in team and organisation-wide meetings, information exchange, and organisation development activities.
· Contribute to ensuring adherence to systems and procedures operating in and between departments, and to the development and implementation of best practices across the organisation.
Other Responsibilities • Undertake national and international business travel, as required.
• Any other activity that contributes to the smooth running and development of the organisation.
• Working co-operatively and supportively with other departments.
• Supporting other Programme Department staff by sharing information, coaching others in understanding and achieving key tasks and contributing to an effective and successfully team work environment.
