Rio Tinto Energy has recently acquired control of Riversdale Mining in Mozambique. Riversdale currently has 2 projects, the Benga project which is set to produce first coal in 2011. The Rio Tinto Health and Safety standards and processes need to be established in a quick and effective way to deliver strong health and safety outcomes and alignment with Rio Tinto's values and standards.
The Engineering team is responsible for providing sustaining project management and maintenance support to RTCM operations. The Transport Superintendent will be responsible for overall Transport Area management and planning and good quality reporting - this is essential to ensure compliance of the RTCM vehicle requirements and promote its values.
Key accountabilities
- Implement and promote a pro-active safety culture and support the wider RTCM safety culture;
- Ensure that all work undertaken is performed with safety being of prime importance;
- Ensure compliance with the Rio Tinto Safety Standards;
- Ensure safety engagement across the business in performing work of the role and supporting the business in achieve safety objectives;
- Prompt reporting of incidents, including hazards and near miss reports;
- Meeting commitments outlined in your Personal Health and Safety Plan;
- Ensure that the Transport Area activities are properly performed, and ensure compliance with schedule,
- Ensure that the vehicle fleet is properly maintained;
- Conduct and assist with day-to-day Department and interface activities;
- Management of expenses costs and report on monthly basis on regard of the vehicle fleet repairing/service;
- Report on monthly basis about rental vehicle cost expenses;
- Budget planning and monitoring;
- Liaise with Contractors and mining personnel in a proper and ethical manner and report potential problem areas;
- Contracts management;
- Meetings attendance;
- Identify gaps and make recommendations for continuous improvement;
- Report Department activities status, progress & improvements;
- Ensure compliance of company HSEQ requirements
- Collect and analyze proper data to perform reports,
- Perform on due time good quality reports as requested by RTCM management,
- Liaise and maintain relationship with local authorities,
- Assist the Engineering Manager and support the operational teams to implement, compliance and maintain safety standards and vehicle policy,
- Facilitate the investigation of vehicle incidents and implementation of corrective and preventative actions;
- Ensure training awareness of employees and contractors on vehicle and driving procedures;
Minimum Requirements
- Mechanical Engineering Degree or similar, or significant relevant experience
- At least 5 years of experience in the fleet management
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office)
- Fluency in Portuguese and English
- Driver´s license
- Experience on fleet operations
