The African Media Initiative (AMI) seeks to strengthen the media sector, from an owner and operator perspective, so that it can play its full role in promoting social development, economic growth and in empowering citizens to hold governments and other institutions to account.
AMI is incorporated in the Republic of Kenya as a non-profit, nongovernmental organization and enjoys the benefits of a Host Country Agreement with the Government. To strengthen its institutional building, AMI is looking to employ a Book Keeper/Accountant. The incumbent will report to the Director of Finance & Administration.
Duties and Responsibilities: • Have delegated responsibility for all aspects of AMI’s accounts using Quick books Accounting system • Process payments ensuring that all supporting documentation is in place • Perform bank and petty cash reconciliation • Assist in preparation of monthly financial reports for management, board meetings and donors • Maintain a working knowledge of the roles of AMI’s employees to ensure a professional image is presented to all callers. • Support the AMI’s fund development projects and events as necessary • File accounting documents on timely basis and in compliance with laid down guidelines
Required Qualifications • Minimum CPA II /ACCA or equivalent • Good knowledge of maintenance of ledgers, cash book and bank reconciliations • Good computers skills particularly use of spreadsheets and accounting packages • Excellent organizational skills including the ability to handle a variety of assignments sometimes under pressure of deadlines • Be of high integrity and have a sense of confidentiality
