African Health Observatory
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
- Strengthen the evidence base to inform policies and strategies, and to monitor health, including progress towards the MDGs and other internationally agreed-upon goals, through the African Health Observatory;
- Support Member States in building capacity to improve the availability, quality and use of health information and evidence
- Support Member States to adopt and implement policies and strategies for knowledge management,
- Support Member States to adopt and implement eHealth policies and harmonisation strategies;
- Support the strengthening of WHO's capacity in knowledge acquisition, generation, sharing, dissemination and use, including AFRO web-related activities
Description of duties:
1.Assist in incorporating statistics from the AFRO data warehouse within the Wiki platform;
2.Assist in the collection, processing and update of country analytical profiles on the Wiki platform;
3.Carry out AHO AFRO website content updates;
4.Assist collaborative work of the networks and working groups;
5.Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Observatory portal and AFRO Web;
6.Carry out AHO portal content updates;
7.Carry out all other duties required to ensure the Observatory portal/AFRO Web is functioning optimally on the AFRO network ;
8.Handle all the day-to-day linkages between the AHO portal and the Global Health Observatory;
9.Effectively implement any other functions and responsibilities assigned by AHO and HSS.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential:
- University Degree (or equivalent) in Content Management, and/or advanced degree in Information Science and other knowledge related fields.
Desirable:
- Post graduate diploma or professional certification in informatics.
Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of Web development tools.
- Demonstrate excellent skills in Wiki Platform development;
- Good knowledge of content management.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
- Proven ability to maintain and establish excellent interpersonal working relations and to work with competing priorities under pressure;
- Conversant with common IT software including Content Management tools.
Experience:
Essential:
- At least 5 years practical experience in informatics through direct work experience in developing countries;
- Proven ability to work as an effective change agent in diverse organizational settings.
- Previous experience working with WHO or other multilateral/bilateral agencies is critical.
Desirable:
- At least five years work experience in Africa and/or in least developed countries.
- Substantial experience in informatics, application in public sector context.
Languages:
- Excellent knowledge of French with a good working knowledge of English; knowledge of Portuguese would be an asset.
