This position is located within the USAID/Tanzania Health Office in Dar es Salaam.  The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the lead for the PMI in Tanzania.  PMI is one of the largest, most complex and politically sensitive programs within the USAID/Tanzania Mission.  Based at the Mission in Dar es Salaam, the Senior Malaria Advisor provides leadership, guidance, and overall direction on the development and execution of the President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) in collaboration with the PMI CDC Technical Advisor.  Given the integrated structure of the Health Office, the incumbent leads malaria programming across all three teams.  The incumbent will liaise with PMI backstops at USAID/Washington and CDC/Atlanta, and USAID/Tanzania personnel working on health activities that feature malaria control as a cross-cutting theme.
The Senior Malaria Advisor exercises extensive independent judgment in: planning and carrying out tasks; representing the USG in high-level fora; making technical decisions; resolving problems and conflicts; and, taking necessary steps to meet deadlines.  The Senior Malaria Advisor will also perform inherently governmental functions such as officially representing USAID at functions, approving policy documents, managing USAID awards, budgeting, and developing and preparing planning documents and work plans.
