BACKGROUND:
Internews® is an international media development organization based in Arcata, CA and Washington, DC whose mission is to empower local media worldwide to give people the news and information they need, the ability to connect, and the means to make their voices heard.
GENERAL FUNCTION:
Internews is seeking candidates for a Monitoring/Evaluation Specialist for its Kenya based media development programs. S/he will directly report to the Country Director, ensuring donor M&E compliance across all projects, effective management of supplementary research functions and leveraging of program success stories for outreach proposes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:• Line management of two M&E officers (Health projects, Democracy/Governance projects).
• Design, re-design and strategic management of all donor mandatory project M&E plans, associated data collection and analysis procedures;
• Commissioning and management of external research activities such as Focus Group Discussions, Content Analysis and/or scheduled external evaluations;
• Guide staff in the analysis and reporting of project outputs and results, and ensure incorporation of lessons learned into ongoing project activities;
• Provide training in M&E data collection and analysis for departmental and project staff;
• Provide training in M&E data collection and analysis for departmental and project staff;
• Ensure coherence and efficiency in cross-project/department M&E data collection and analysis;
• Maintain oversight of current donor and academic guidance in M&E and data analysis;
• Oversee narrative reporting functions and schedule/deadline adherence for all projects;
• Knowledge Management: institutionalise knowledge gained through M&E processes in order to support organisational training, education, improved development and practice.
• Actively identify outreach opportunities from narrative reports, M&E data, research etc, as appropriate;

• Regularly identify targeted outreach, donor/stakeholder engagement, and media opportunities;
• Advise the Country Director on M&E strategy and current trends.
• Represent projects in public and professional meetings and conferences as appropriate;
• Required to travel extensively to regional project sites within Kenya for project management and monitoring purposes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master’s or higher degree in Monitoring & Evaluation Science, Journalism, Political/Social Science, International Studies, or other relevant field preferred;
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of media and civil society development issues in Kenya, with a focus on public health, governance and political reform;
• Significant experience in managing Monitoring and Evaluation systems for international donor-funded projects;
• Significant experience in managing Monitoring and Evaluation systems for international donor-funded projects;
• Additional professional experience in the media desirable;
• Previous/specific experience in media development and capacity building initiatives desirable;
• Professional experience in managing and implementing multi-component programs;
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage complex teams of staff;
• Strong interpersonal skills to maintain good relations with relevant partners, USAID, NGOs working in the area of media and civil society development and other personnel associated with this program;
• English language fluency required; competency in Kiswahili and other local languages an advantage;

• Capacity building experience including training, facilitating, coaching and mentoring;
• Knowledge of content generation, design and layout processes.
