In Tanzania, JSI under SCMS and USAID |
DELIVER PROJECT supports the Government of Tanzania’s goal of improving the
health of all Tanzanians. In Coordination with in-country and international
partners, JSI assists Tanzania National programs to enhance their supply chain
capability; ensuring that accurate supply chain information is collected,
shared and used to provide quality affordable health care products to those
that need them.
JSI
Tanzania field office seeks to employ two dynamic and self oriented persons to
work as Public health Logistics Advisors in the area of Rational Use of
Medicines and Pharmacovigilance. The positions will be based in Dar es
Salaam with some in-country travel.

Public Health Logistics Advisor (2 Positions)

OVERALL
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The
Public Health Logistics Advisors (PHLA) will be providing support to the
day-to-day activities for promoting Rational Use of Medicines and
Pharmacovigilance in the country. In collaboration with the
Pharmaceuticals Services Section (PSS), TFDA, Ministry of Health and Social
Welfare Programs (NACP, PMTCT, NTLP, NTD and NMCP), public health supporting
agencies and implementing partners. The PHLAs will primarily work on
implementing and monitoring interventions for strengthening Rational use of
Medicines and Pharmacovigilance systems. While the primary focus of the PHLAs
is on Rational Use of Medicines and Pharmacovigilance, the PHLAs will also
assist in providing technical support in activities for strengthening public
health commodities management in line with PSS, NACP, NMCP, PMTCT, NTLP and MSD
activities to ensure that HIV/AIDS commodities and essential medicines are
running smoothly within the distribution system
SPECIFIC
RESPONSIBILITIES
may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Contribute to development and implementation of
interventions to promote rational use of Medicines and Pharmacovigilance
according to work plans and in compliance with Ministry of Health and
Social Welfare requirements.
- Participate in capacity building initiatives
including training of health care workers on Rational Use of Medicines and
Pharmacovigilance.
- Work closely with different partners to provide
technical assistance in strengthening capacities at central, district and
facility level to ensure effective implementation of capacity building
initiatives related to Pharmaceutical Management and Pharmacovigilance.
- Work
with TFDA and other relevant authorities/institutions to create public
awareness on medicines use safety
- In collaboration with other JSI staff and
stakeholders develop work plans and other key documents for managed
activities.
- Prepare scopes of work, and budgets for
assigned activities in a timely and efficient manner and consistent with
USAID regulations and policies.
- Maintain close contact with relevant central
and local governmental officials and partners involved in pharmaceutical
management and monitoring medicine safety.
- Conducting
assessments for identifying performance strengths, weaknesses, and
Providing On-the-Job Training (OJT) in pharmaceutical management and
Pharmacovigilance.
- Conduct
supportive supervision and monitoring visits to selected health
facilities. These visits may include staff
Regional Health Management Team (RHMT), PSS, NACP, TFDA, NTLP and
Council Health Management Team (CHMT)

Organize
and conduct meetings/workshops/seminars with stakeholders in the regions to
discuss challenges, success stories and strategize for the implementation of
Rational Use of Medicines and Pharmacovigilance activities.
- Assist
consultants in the implementation of all assessments, trainings, and/or
technical assistance activities targeted to project in Tanzania

Facilitate
the development and dissemination of IEC materials
- Ensuring
good communication with and timely feedback to Stakeholders PSS, NACP,
TFDA, PMTCT, and NMCP, WHO, Implementing partners, Regional and district
health teams.
- Writing
reports on activities conducted
·
Share
reports to designated stake holders and institutions as deemed necessary.
Qualifications,
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Applicants
for this position should be Tanzanian nationals or lawful residents who possess
the following minimum qualifications:
- A
qualified Pharmacist, Medical Doctor or other Public Health professional
with at least two years experience in conducting pharmaceutical management
and Pharmacovigilance activities.
- Experience
working with the Government of Tanzania and other NGO’s preferred.
- Excellent
written and verbal English.
- Ability
to prepare and present information.
- Ability
to work on a team to develop strategies and manage implementation of
projects
- Ability
to work under minimal supervision.
- Previous
work experience with USAID-funded projects desirable.
- Proficiency
in common computer packages (eg.Word, PowerPoint, Excel) relevant to the
work.
- Self
motivated
- Team
player.
- Able
to travel for an extended period of time away from the duty station to
support technical activities.
- Able
to travel internationally to attend trainings and conferences as needed.
*The
Public Health Logistics Advisors will work under the guidance of the Senior
Public Health Logistics Advisor /or a
designated Supervisor.
REMUNERATION:
A
