ICANN has an exciting new opportunity for a Communications Director in our new gTLD department. The communications director manages and coordinates company communications related to the New Generic Top-Level Domains program, for both internal and external audiences. Performs writing and editing-related duties, plus oversight functions, in producing technical and non-technical marketing communications about new gTLDs, which could include videos, web content, brochures, webinars, presentations, interviews, social media content, response to press and speaking requests worldwide, and more. Carries out responsibilities (including, but not limited to): researching, authoring, editing, and publishing technical marketing communications; overseeing production of various types of marketing collateral which require external vendors. Creates RFPs and supervises bidding process. Leads and directs the work of others. Serves as a spokesperson for the program. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. This position will also perform certain duties as part of the broader ICANN communications team.
Additionally, As a member of the communications team, the Director, New gTLD Communications will be responsible for developing and executing the company`s public relations strategy by writing and strategizing content for a wide range of pubic relations materials, including; press releases, strategic plans, measurement reports, opinion editorials, authored articles, analytical papers and case studies, company profiles and other external and internal communications pieces.
Key Responsibilities:
- Liaise with all of ICANN and the external world as the point person for receiving and coordinating requests for new gTLD communications.
- Develop and lead strategy to drive new gTLD awareness globally
- Act as counselor to the gTLD management team in conjunction with the VP, Global Communications
- Lead public relations efforts for new gTLDs and support executive spokespeople
- Strategize (in conjunction with colleagues) what materials need to be produced in order to explain and raise awareness of new gTLDs
- Lead the charge for producing needed new gTLD communications, blending in-house and out-sourced resources as appropriate.
- Track effectiveness of communications in order to invest resources ever more wisely and efficiently
- Ensure relevance of all materials by tracking changes to the new gTLDs program and updating accordingly.
Essential Job Functions:

- Strategic counsel to internal stakeholders
- Understanding of the different communications channels, media and the ability to manage a campaign across multiple disciplines and geographies

- Producer of all types of content (web, video, audio, print, press; in multiple languages)

- Proven spokesperson and presentation skills
- College degree in communications, business communications, or a related subject required; or equivalent business experience
- Knowledge of media production, communication and dissemination techniques
- Experience and familiarity using social media tools such as blogs, Twitter, Facebook, and web video
