Position Description:
The Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre and Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College MoshiTanzania in partnership with Duke University- USA wishes to announce recruitment of one position for Alumni & Career Counseling Officer for the Medical Education Partnership Initiative- MEPI Program at the KCMC Campus.
Overall Duties:
This position will coordinate the alumni and career counselor services for the students and graduates of the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College in Moshi, Tanzania. In an effort keep records of alumni; this person will be responsible for reaching out to alumni to collect data on their location, current employment, and research and service delivery. This position will interface with the Provost's office to invite alumni to annual post graduate seminars and graduation ceremonies. To enhance the knowledge of current local opportunities, this position will assist in developing relationships between current students and alumni. The Alumni and Career Counseling Officer will maintain a database of all current students and alumni with periodic updates. The best candidate for this position should be comfortable working with students since he/she will help to develop student groups based upon common interests/specialties, and then using alumni contacts to mentor students.
Specific Responsibilities:
Alumni related:
Connect current students with alumni, for networking and mentoring
Participate in the organization of research seminars and encouraging participation of students.
Maintain a database or portfolio of alumni
Generate newsletters and distribute to alumni
Coordinate invitations to alumni for guest lectures at KCMC
Career Counseling related:
Identify interests among students (oncology, obstetrics, pediatrics, pathology, etc)
Serve as steward/facilitator of student interest groups or councils
Assist students in choosing career paths perhaps outside of patient care, i.e. research, basic sciences
Encourage graduates to remain in Tanzania, by helping to locate careers in-country, and even in rural areas, and to encourage them to remain in the health sector
Research and develop materials relevant to special career paths (professional associations, educational guides) to have on hand for students use
Demonstrate how to use various resources for career exploration
Collaborate with the Learning Management Specialist to have announcements and groups on LMS
Circulate training and fellowship opportunities for students and trainees

Qualifications:
BA /BSc in Education from recognized Higher Learning Institution, Masters will be additional Qualification.
Experience in a career center and/or alumni office at a University level, preferably in the medical/health field.
Adept at working with Microsoft Office Suite, including Access, Adobe or Microsoft Publisher for generating newsletters
Database building skills preferred
Web design and editing skills also a plus
Familiarity with online networking sites, such as Facebook, Linkedln, and Google+, twitter
Comfortable working with a large and diverse student body
Strong customer service skills
