This person will be the on-the-ground figure head for APP in Uganda. Able to deal with and represent APP to all the charity comes into contact with, from prisoners, ex-inmates, prison staff and other government officials, to potential donors, staff and volunteers. This person will be responsible for development of the strategy with the Director General, and will have ownership of the implementation of the APP strategy and responsibility for all the resources, budget, processes, supplier relationships, all aspects of project planning & management, and administration in Uganda, overseeing a team of 21 people, including supervisory roles over all heads of department based in the region. This person will work closely with the overall APP Director General, and report to them regularly.
APP’s current projects focus on:
• The continuation of and development of a scholarship programme for inmates, ex-inmates and prison staff to study for a LLB or Diploma in the Common Law via correspondence with the University of London.
• The development of model infrastructure, such as a container library and container clinic.
• The development of training of trainers’ materials in the areas of healthcare, education, access to justice and community reintegration.
• Advocacy through creative work including art, drama and music projects.
Applications will be welcomed from candidates who have previously worked in public sector organisations, who have preferably gained experience within prisons, charities or government. You will need to demonstrate a strong ability to communicate with a wide audience range and have strong organisational skills. You will have experience of managing and leading teams of varying levels of experience and from diverse backgrounds, experience for Africa. You will be analytical and strategic, able to understand data and see the big picture. You will be passionate about the rehabilitation of prisoners and sympathetic to APP's ethos.

This is a full time role, based in Uganda and will be remunerated in Ugandan Shillings. The salary is dependent upon experience and the remuneration package is competitive.
