• A high tech bottling line was therefore acquired to package different brands with multi-size packaging.
• In addition, there are plans to add a keg line (trials on small scale already started)
Dimensions:
• Has a team of 4 Shift managers, a training manager and a Packaging Engineer with a multi-skilled force working a three-shift system to produce quality packaged products as per requirement
• Controls budgets for packaging section (both fixed & variable costs)
Purpose of Role:
• To provide a variety of high quality packaged products in their right quantities and at the right time as required by Distribution and Marketing departments
• Improve packaging efficiency (%).
• Reduce number of trade returns.
• Improve packaging cost (cost/hl or cost/cs)
• Improve plant availability
• Reduce number of stock outs in the warehouse
• This to be achieved through using high quality packaging materials, investing in the training and development of people, following world class processes and continuous improvement. All this to be carried out using safe practices and in a cost-effective manner
Top Accountabilities:
• Ensuring product availability both in terms of quantities and brands as required by Sales / Marketing Department
• Making production plans (packaging volumes, materials)
• Budget making and cost control for Packaging section (both fixed and variable costs)
• Ensuring proper maintenance of the packaging machines to increase plant availability
• Ensuring safety of stocks in the packaging area (Fulls & empties) and machinery: - Drawing up of systems, implementation & evaluation
• Production of management reports (Daily, Weekly & monthly)
• Ensuring of Health & safety in the Packaging hall: - Drawing up of system, its implementation and evaluation
• Ensuring high productivity in terms of packaging efficiencies
• Working with Human resources to ensure that the packaging section is manned with competent and well-motivated staff
• Daily declaration of production to the Excise officer
• Performance appraisal and coaching of subordinate staff
• Working with Quality Assurance Manager to ensure quality of packaging materials and product
• Attend all sessions of the beer tasting panel
• Identify training needs and ensuring that this training is carried out
Qualifications:
• Graduate level or equivalent (B.Sc. Brewing /Chemistry /Biochemistry /Food Science Technology or B.Sc. Engineering - Mechanical /Electrical or Chemical Engineering)
• Postgraduate brewing qualification of AME, IOB or equivalent (For non-brewing graduates).
Experience:
o 3 years packaging experience at Shift Manager level.

o Thorough grasp of UBL policy on operations
