Purpose of Role
To lead & glue the marketing elements of the Africa Premium Spirits Transformation Plan. This person needs to work with the Africa GBT members to look across the brand plans on Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Baileys & Reserve to find common ground & push for city led insights/ marketing execution wins eg. City Media approaches. This person will also be playing a more traditional role as an SBM for J&B and Bushmills as we look to extend our Premium Spirits growth in the whisky category across Africa.
Context/Scope
This role is an 18 month project role to be part of the Hub team aimed at driving through the whole plan. The successful candidate will have a focus on the “City Plan” and how we leverage City Insights/ Media etc. This role will also support the Marketing Director on the growth of our new Spirits Brands across Africa, focussing on J&B, Bushmills & Captain Morgan in FY13. The aim is that by the end of this role the premium spirits portfolio will be so much better established across Africa that there will be a series of options for a next role.
Dimensions of the role
a) Market Complexity
The role will need to lead and build alignment across a wide range of stakeholders, African market teams and GBT’s.
The Africa Business is split into 4 major hubs which in some cases then split down even further into smaller groups.
Within each of these markets we have a core spirits brand/ consumer planning team and a GM or lead person responsible for the Spirits transformation team.
This person will also be a lead member of the core hub team running the transformation plan
b) Leadership Responsibilities
A Premium Spirits Brand Marketing role instrumental to transforming Africa’s Spirits Marketing capability. The development of breakthrough consumer city led insights translated into execution of some simple Pan Africa City programmes.
The incumbent will have an inquisitive & entrepreneurial spirit, some good developing market experience and really high personal standards on what amazing spirits execution looks like.
Top Accountabilities
- Lead the marketing elements of the Africa Premium Spirits Transformation Plan
- Overall leader from marketing for spirits transformation team meetings, agenda & follow up.
- Lead and Influence the FY13 GAME planning process for J&B in the priority markets (excluding RSA) and check they reflect the correct strategy/ A&P spend. Work with the commercial managers/ distributors to ensure we execute these plans in markets
- Identify future long term strategy for J&B and Bushmills and work with the GBT to come up with a Pan Africa Plan.
Qualifications and experience required
Background
- Strong commercial marketing experience. (Experience of working on whisky, working with GBT’s essential.)
- Experience of working with distributors
- Strong commercial awareness
- Line management experience
- Africa knowledge/ experience an advantage
- French/ Portugese language advantageous
