Rio Tinto Energy has recently acquired control of Riversdale Mining in Mozambique. Riversdale currently has 2 projects, the Benga project which is set to produce first coal in 2011. The Rio Tinto Health and Safety standards and processes need to be established in a quick and effective way to deliver strong health and safety outcomes and alignment with Rio Tinto's values and standards.

The Engineer Software and Instrumentation role will provide technical support to the site, specifically leading the maintenance, improvement and analysis of the plant control system. The Engineer Software and Instrumentation role exists to lead the overall development and improvement of the functionality and application of the PLC and SCADA systems to improve the understanding and performance of the CHPP.

Key accountabilities:

• Develop and manage the overall SCADA system operating and improvement plan
• Identify and lead project improvement initiatives requiring analysis / justification and lead the rollout of these initiatives to the site from concept to completion
• Provide technical assistance and system training to operators and other engineers.
• Participating with plant and process breakdown reviews
• Programming PLC's;
• Support for commissioning new plant and equipment;
• Providing project management for small projects;
• Gathering and collating plant functional information for investigations and inquiries
• Develop SCADA system maintenance and improvement budget for input into budgeting and review process.

• College/University Education
• A demonstrated track record in Instrumentation and Software Management / Change Control / Project Implementation & Commissioning.
• Previous experience controlling instrumentation and Software functions in a mining environment.
• Process Control System Improvement / Upgrades / Implementation.
• Proven Track Record of Process Optimization and improving systems through utilizing PCS.
• Suggest / Implement new control strategies and mechanisms to improve production and ease fault finding.
• Utilization of Historian to do Advanced Fault Finding.
• Hi Value on Structured and well disciplined programming techniques. (Programming Standards)
• Good Relations (Internally and Externally)
• Pro-Active problem solver.
