Position Title: Communication Specialist (National Staff)
Project Name: Neighbors Initiative
Location: Mogadishu, Somalia
Length of Assignment: 3 months
Main Objectives: • Help ARC donors learn more about the famine through the stories of individual people and families • Show the impact ARC is making through storytelling, photos and video • Introduce donors to the aid workers on the ground in Mogadishu and show people what it’s like to work in Somalia • Introduce donors to volunteers who are working with ARC. We’d want to know why they decided to volunteer, why they have such a passion for serving and what they’ve learned in the process
Specific Activities: • Interview families we’re serving to learn about their lives, what they’ve been going through as a result of the drought and famine, the hardships they face and their needs • Show through interviews, videos and photos how Somalis live their life • Report on ARC’s activities and work to show donors how we’re helping • Take photos of families we’re serving, our work and conditions in general • Regularly send information to update ARC’s Facebook page and twitter • Send updates on a regular basis, every other day if possible • Record ambient noise • Photos/videos of ARC projects like waterpoints, etc. in use
Deliverables:
• Interviews, photos, videos, Facebook updates and tweets. • Interviews may be sent via email – either notes or audio files from a digital voice recorder. • Can send photos and videos through yousendit.com
Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Journalism/Communication. • Minimum 3-5 years experience in media. • Able to speak, read and write excellent English and Somali languages. • Experience in working in difficult and complex situation is required.
