1. Vision & Purpose
The role is supposed to help the Bank to achieve its mission “stimulating a consistent expansion of and diversification of African trade so as to rapidly increase Africa’s share of global trade, while operating as a first class, profit oriented, socially responsible financial institution and a centre of excellence in African trade matters” by carrying out various economic analyses for reporting purposes and participating in preparation of the Bank's strategic plan and annual plans as may be required by senior management.

The role of the position holder will be to provide support for the Bank's strategic planning and economic analysis activities as well as the monitoring of these activities on an ongoing basis as well as the preparation of the Bank's various reports for senior management, the Board and the shareholders.

4. Duties and responsibilities
a) Refining or participating in the preparation and monitoring of the Bank’s Strategic Plan “ASPIRE”, other plans and budgets, and reviewing them for the information of Senior Management and the Board.
b) Preparation of a variety of studies in the areas of world trade and finance; African trade and finance; balance of payments trends; banking policy and operation in Africa.
c) Collection and monitoring of key economic indicators covering the globe, major trading regions, as well as Africa suitably organized to provide and guide policy and the operations and other activities of the Bank.
d) Monitoring developments in global trade finance and their impact on Africa as well as their implications on the activities of the Bank.
e) Preparation of periodic reports, including half-year, annual as well as other periodic reports and their presentation to colleagues, senior management and the board.
f) Preparation of comments on important publications, including professional publications and those available from leading organizations.
g) Analyses of the operations of the Bank and those of other leading organizations active in African trade finance as well as comparable organizations, with a view to drawing conclusions for the enhancement of the activities of the Bank.
h) Broad range of studies covering developments in intra-African trade, prices, risk-bearing materials, regional integration, obstacles to trade and their alleviation, and similar issues.
i) Designing products and schemes aimed at enhancing the activities.

5. Skills, Knowledge and Attitude
• Post graduate degree in Economics, Econometrics, or Applied Economics or other related field from a recognized University. PhD holders in the same fields will have an added advantage;
• Sound experience of at least 8 years in economic research and analysis in a reputable organisation;
• Ability to communicate and function in a culturally diverse and change oriented setting with good knowledge of banking practices in Africa;
• Ability to interact with senior officials of banks, corporates and governments and to represent the Bank in important professional fora where oral presentation of papers will be necessary to a technical and professional audience;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of the Bank's other working languages is an added advantage (French, Arabic and Portuguese);
• Knowledge of broad analytical techniques, such as econometrics, mathematical/operations research tools. In particular, ability to analyze, and draw reasonable inferences from the analyses of financial and economic information and a broad range of economic indicators;
• Knowledge of computer software necessary for analysing large volumes of statistical data;
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including ability to organize and manage human resources to attain goals.
