Internship description:
The ACE project focuses on the assessment and classification of emergencies for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and manages the IASC task force on multi-cluster assessments. OCHA is currently looking for interns to work in Geneva for a period of three months, with a possible extension to six months. The internship begins on a mutually agreeable date in early summer 2011.
He/she will be tasked with:
• Supporting the ACE team in Geneva day-to-day global and field operations through contributing to field deployments, NATF management and internal OCHA policy work related to inter-agency assessments. • Disseminating NATF products and information and initiating contact with potential end-users of NATF operational guidance in support of outreach goals. • Supporting communication objectives of the ACE project, including maintaining relevant web sites and other communication tools.
Desired Profile:
• Excellent communication skills • General knowledge in current humanitarian affairs and issues • Understanding of humanitarian assessments desirable • Flexible team player who is able to work with minimum supervision and, when necessary, adapt to changing priorities • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders in time-restrained situations • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel- knowledge of web-based platforms desirable • Fluency in spoken and written English- knowledge of French an advantage. • Currently enrolled in a Masters programme (Social Sciences, International Relations, Communications, Library and Information Science or other related fields)
