Founded in 1999, War Child Canada is dedicated to providing urgently needed humanitarian assistance to war-affected communities around the world. Working cooperatively with local partners and communities, War Child’s international projects strive to ease human suffering and to create opportunities in conflict and post-conflict communities through targeted capacity-building in the areas of education, livelihoods and access to justice. WCC is currently working in eight countries: Afghanistan, DRC, Ethiopia, Haiti, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Sudan (Darfur) and northern Uganda.
GENERAL
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the finances of War Child Canada’s youth, education and livelihoods program from our field office El Geneina, West Darfur, as well as supporting WCC’s Sudan program on overall financial management.
War Child Canada’s Finance Manager (Sudan) will be based in El Geniena, West Darfur, with some travel as needed to Khartoum. The Finance Manager will report locally to WCC’s Country Director, Sudan, and work closely with War Child Canada’s Finance Department in its headquarters in Toronto, Canada.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for managing WCC’s Sudan program’s finances on a day-to-day basis, providing senior management support on all aspects of financial management.
• Manages the financial management process including donor, HAC and other contractual obligations, manages accounts payables, accounts receivables, expenditure allocations and grant audits with the support of local finance staff.
• Prepares regular financial reports on a routine basis, including variance-analysis, fulfilling external financial reporting requirement for funding bodies.
• Performs quarterly cash flow forecasts, payment requests and monthly bank reconciliations.
• Monitors, maintains and further develops appropriate financial controls and systems.
• Works with the Country Director to produce accurate budgets as required.
• Supervises and trains a national counterpart in all related financial matters.
• Manages a petty cash system.
• With the support of the Director of Finance at WCC Head Office, oversee the implementation of new financial management accounting software and accounting systems, to ensure the accuracy of data and reports.
• Oversees the efficient filing and maintenance of accounting information and expenditures.
• Any other tasks as assigned by the Country Director.
Essential experience, competencies and qualifications
• An accountancy qualification at university degree level or above.
• Strong background in external donor reporting for an international NGO and experience working with major UN, government and other institutional donors .
• Committed to producing work of a consistently high standard
• Experience undertaking reviews of financial processes to ensure that quality standards are met.
• Experienced of major accounting software systems
• Advanced Excel skills; intermediate to advanced Word and Outlook
• Excellent analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Able to work and live in insecure and harsh conditions
• Demonstrated flexibility and ability to cope with work load during peak periods with changing demands, priorities and multiple tasks to meet right deadlines
• Experience working in a finance role for an international NGO in a conflict and/or post-conflict setting
• Proven ability to work with a team
• Creative, flexible, solution-focused, professional and committed to WCC’s mission and values.
• Excellent writing and communication skills in English
• Superior diplomacy and negotiation skills
DESIRABLE
• Written and spoken Arabic

CONTRACT:
1 year, provisional on successful performance review after 3 months, with the possibility for renewal.
SALARY
$45,000 - $55,000 Canadian dollars according to experience and qualifications.
