PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To provide leadership and overall management of the implementation of the strategic goals and objectives of the Emerging New Generation to Improve Nutrition and Economic opportunities (ENGINE) Program.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide overall planning, coordination, and technical direction of all activities including the work of sub-recipients. i.e. Hawassa University, Tulane University and Public Health Association.
- Oversee and manage of project staff
- Maintain a good relations with the USAID Agreement Officer Technical Representative (AOTR), incuding regular and transparent communication with the representative
- Ensure that all ENGINE programs are implemented in full compliance with relevant USAID and GoE policies and guidelines.
- Provide sound leadership and technical expertise, and facilitate development and exploitation of links and synergies between ENGINE and other donors/GOE programs as appropriate.
- Conduct site visits to ENGINE activities in Zones and Woredas and partner/grantee programs and provide feedback for program improvement.
- Represent ENGINE in donors/partners and other meetings both nationally and internationally as required.
- Ensure that ENGINE programs are well communicated and understood by relevant government ministries and major government donors.
- Ensure timely preparation and submission of accurate financial reports and cash requests to USAID.
- Ensure quality submission of annual work plans, success stories, deliverables, performance reports as per the donor guideline and grant contract.
- Engage in and ensure that appropriate tools appraisal, coaching and mentoring etc are practiced within the program to enhance smooth staff relations and accountability.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Master’s degree in nutrition, public health, social sciences, international development, or a related field
- Leading, managing, and implementing large international development projects, specifically with experience in two or more of the following areas: nutrition, health policy, health systems strengthening, behavior change communication, community development, food security, or agriculture.
- Broad understanding of public health and in particular must be sufficiently knowledgeable in the area nutrition and should be knowledgeable about the relevant socioeconomic, institutional and policy issues that were related to this area of work
- Professional experience interacting with U.S. Government agencies, host country government, and other relevant stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience working in partnership with international donors and agencies.
