INTERNSHIP: COMMUNICATION AND KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT

The MDG Achievement Fund (MDG-F) is a United Nations resource that finances and supports national efforts to accelerate progress on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Established in 2007 with a contribution from the Spanish Government to the United Nations system, the MDG-F supports national governments, local authorities and citizen organizations in their efforts to tackle poverty and inequality. Our goals are to:  Positively impact the status of the MDGs and tackle inequality; Increase national ownership and civil society participation; Improve aid effectiveness by building on the collective strength of the United Nations. Through its 130 joint programmes in 50 countries and eight different thematic areas (gender equality, youth employment, economic governance, culture and development, conflict prevention, environment, child nutrition and private sector), the MDG-F has gathered valuable and unique knowledge on how countries can advance in development goals through joint efforts that engage different UN agencies, governmental institutions, the private sector, communities and civil society entities. The MDG Achievement Fund’s Secretariat is currently working to distill results, lessons learned and findings to inform the evolving development agenda post-2015 as part of its advocacy and knowledge management strategies. Duties and Responsibilities

The purpose of this intern ship is to support the MDG-F Secretariat in its communication and knowledge management activities to disseminate results, knowledge and lessons learned from its 130 joint programmes across the world, in specific coordinating and managing the online library, where different knowledge products (lessons learned, research pieces, case studies and etc.) are made available for development practitioners. The required tasks to be performed to support the MDG-F Secretariat include:  Manage the online library: collect, review, quality check, select and organize publications and knowledge products; Prepare and write lessons learned to feed MDG-F´s wiki (http://wiki.mdgfund.net); Support the production of contents and development of the knowledge space at the MDG-F website; Provide research and editorial support for documents, papers, reports and other communication materials; Summarize relevant publications; Manage photo and video libraries.

Required Skills and Experience

Eligibility Enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher) at the time of application and during the internship (if a candidate is graduating before the internship period begins, they are no longer eligible); or Have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree, if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages; Not to have graduated prior to the beginning of the internship. Language: Proficiency in English and Spanish. Other:  Computer literate in standard software applications. Important information: Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP. UNDP accepts no responsibility for the medical and life insurance of the intern or costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship. The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern’s studies.
