Unilever Tea Tanzania Limited is a plantation company operating under Unilever Tea, East Africa (UTEA). UTIL employs over 5,500 employees whose safety and security are very important to the business.
We are currently looking to hire an Assistant Manager - SSHE, for our Tanzania business. This role will be both office and field based and requires candidates with security & safety knowledge.
Duties and responsibilities of the Assistant Manager• Security, Safety, Health & Environment (SSHE1
Coordinate Safety Health and Environmental Excellence activities throughout UTTL. Assist management in SHE programmes, reporting, policies and training matters as required.
Develop a comprehensive Unilever Sustainable Living Plan, USLP (in line with the Global Template) outlining all the current USLP initiatives in UTIL, project milestones, the KPI's and the progress of each of this initiative. Present monthly updates to the USLP steering team
Conduct a deep dive review on each of our Key USLP initiatives and propose improvements for implementation
Engage with key customers and suppliers to build a strategic partnership in USLP initiatives.
Governance of security protocols & systems, including security guards management in non-manufacturing sites across the business unit. _
Ensure that all incidents are promptly reported and investigated according to the set procedures. Recommend and define actions to prevent reoccurrence and assign responsible persons to take the actions within the agreed time scale. .
Develop and embed the. site security protocol, security systems, ensure the role of the security staff complies with the Unilever Global framework afld that the security personnel are continuously up to Unilever standards of training and competency. Report any security incident whether on site of off-site.
Local Reporting: Produce "Monthly Statistics" report for UTIL sites, submitting them on time to become part of the monthly Performance Review report including figures needed in corporate and regional safety performance monitoring. Monthly and Quarterly Cluster reporting for KPls, leading indiqatorreports, Environmental scorecards. SHE Processes implementation, review and training
Govern SSHE reporting system monthly update regionally and locally. This includes OS, Enx KPls, Training, Sub-Committees; SIREN and hot spots monthly progress and actions.
Assist with preparation and the presentation of safety training programs for UTIL. Conduct training to all staff related to Safety as per scheduled by the training coordinator on site.
implement SSHE related projects raised from risk assessment, safety audits, hazard reports and incident investigation if appropriate and assist others as appropriate with the implementation of security/safety related projects and monitor progress.
Develop SSHE procedures and make timely update as a result from any changes of processes and operations or for improvement.
Coordinate with other departments in developing their security/safety rules and procedures and ensure proper implementation through Policy-Procedure sub-committee.
Co-ordinate management and implementation of SSHE related programs: - e.g. 8eSafE; Zero NHW to landfill; STOP Program; Hazard Reporting; Planned Inspection; PTW System; LaTa; Eco-efficiency; etc. Ensure that monitoring systems are in place (through trackers) and communicate KPI to management.
Monitor progress of the site Improvement Programs and communicate updated status to management team during Management Review Meetings.
Coordinate all Unilever and Local Safety Standards requirements to UTIL management team and work out its implementation.
Ensure yearly review meetings to discuss UTIL SSHE performance and improvement plans. Review and update action plans for the each preceding year.
Carry out updates of all records and documents related to PAR/FWS and system as result of any internal and surveillance audits.
Relevant Skills and Experience
Manufacturing and/or Engineering experience or should have a "Safety" working knowledge or relevant degree with two years working experience.
Effective communication and influencing skills
Good spoken/written English and Swahili languages
Good computer skills
Compliance to Unilever standards of leadership
Implementing SSHE Framework and SpeCific Standards
Measuring and communicating SSHE performance
Ensuring compliance with local regulatory requirements
Security risk management
Physical security and Assets protection
People Security
Flexibility with work hours depending upon business needs
Experience in Supply Chain operations
Proven track record of analytical thinking and project management
Excellent trainer capabilities
