URC seeks a Nairobi based Quality Improvement Advisor-Nutrition for USAID funded project Applying Science to Strengthen and Improve Systems (ASSIST). The project is a global leader in the implementation, advocacy, development and promotion of cost-effective methods to design and improve healthcare services and systems in developing and middle income countries.
Position summary:
The Quality Improvement Advisor-Nutrition will provide managerial and technical oversight and overall support for the implementation of the Quality Improvement for Nutrition; liaise with USAID mission in Kenya, Nutrition HIV Programme(NHP) and focal persons in the Ministry of Health to implement Quality Improvement for Nutrition Assessment, Counseling and Support (NACS) programme in HIV context; build capacity of health staff in implementing Nutrition Assessment, Counseling and Support (NACS) to improve the quality of the management of severely acute malnourished HIV Patients with therapeutic food; develop manuals for coaching, training and learning sessions.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with implementing partners, facilities and provide technical support
- Provide support to develop quality indicators, data collection, analysis and reporting
- Document promising practices and lessons learned through regular monitoring visits
- Work closely with local counterparts and quality improvement teams to develop strategies for monitoring quality improvement progress at all levels of services
- Work closely with and support other regional Quality Improvement Advisors in Kenya
- Development of work plan and provide technical assistance for quality improvement
- Development of manuals for training, coaching and learning sessions
- Provide technical support to teams to conduct training, coaching and learning sessions
- Assist health facility staff to revise and develop referrals, counter referrals and follow up
- To undertake any other duties that will be assigned to him/her by the management in line with his/her technical expertise.
Qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience:
- A master degree in nutrition, public health or related field
- Five years experience in working with communities and People Living with HIV and AIDS (PLHA) in the area of Nutrition status assessment, nutrition education, and counseling
- Worked with colleagues and counterparts in the Ministry of Health up to community level to identify and prioritize those aspects of the delivery services that most need quality improvement
- Worked with colleagues to facilitate and provide technical assistance to achieve quality improvement, including plans, monitoring and ensuring that critical activities are met in accordance with the standards
- Posses good knowledge of malnutrition, its classification and nutrition assessment methodology; health system from national to community level; the relationship between HIV and Nutrition
- Should have skills in nutrition education and counseling; management of projects and documentation; demonstrated leadership skills and ability to build networks and partnership; excellent verbal, written, facilitation, communication and presentation skills; administrative, financial and computer skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel in the field as and when required.
- Fluent in English and Kiswahili
