MANAGER INGO ACCOUNTABILITY CHARTER, INTERNATIONAL CIVIL SOCIETY CENTRE
Application Closing Date - 21 Jul 2013
Job Start Date - As soon as possible
Location - International Civil Society Centre, Agricolastraße 26, Berlin, Germany
The International Civil Society Centre
Over the past five years the International Civil Society Centre has established itself as the joint platform for the world’s leading international civil society organisations (ICSOs). Our aim is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of ICSOs by bringing together the most important actors, facilitating communication and enabling cooperation. Our main events have become fixed dates in the calendars of key leaders in the civil society sector and we provide services to collective ICSO projects, for example the INGO Accountability Charter. A large number of the leading ICSOs are regular participants in the Centre’s programmes and play a key role in defining and forming the activities. For more information, please visit: www.icscentre.org.
Since 2010 the Centre hosts the Secretariat of the INGO Accountability Charter. The Charter is the only global, comprehensive and multi-sectoral accountability framework for international CSOs. It was developed and has been signed by a majority of the largest organisations, for example Amnesty International, Greenpeace International, Oxfam International, Plan International, Transparency International, World Vision International etc. Charter Member organisations commit to a thorough annual reporting process on their progress in various areas such as programme effectiveness, environmental performance, anti-corruption measures, and human resource issues. The reporting framework was developed by the Global Reporting Initiative and all reports are reviewed by an Independent Review Panel with prominent representatives from the CSO sector and beyond. For more information, please visit: www.ingoaccountabilitycharter.org.
The Charter Secretariat is made up of a small team within the larger Centre team. It supports and develops the reporting process, manages the governance procedures and organises peer exchange events for the Member organisations. We are now looking to fill the position as Manager of the INGO Accountability Charter, starting as soon as possible.
Responsibilities
In cooperation with the Charter Director, and supported by an intern/trainee as well as secondees from Member organisations, the Manager is responsible for the complete day-to-day management of the INGO Accountability Charter. The responsibilities include:
• Implementation of the Charter’s Strategy (2011-2015) in line with annual plans prepared by the Secretariat and endorsed by the Board.
• Management of the entire governance process, including preparation and follow-up of four Board meetings per year and the Annual Membership Meeting.
• Management of the annual reporting cycle, including pre-screening of reports and preparation of the Independent Review Panel’s meetings.
• Supporting further development of the reporting process, including more comprehensive guidelines for the Members and the introduction of minimum standards.
• Management of Members’ peer exchange activities, such as workshops and webinar sessions.
• Administration of the application and resignation process of Member organisations.
• Management of good information flows between the Board, the Panel and the Members and handling of requests from Members and external stakeholders.
• Management, development and alignment of policies and legal procedures and documents.
• Administration of financial procedures, including overseeing the annual budget and the audit process.
• Developing and editing website content.
• Line-management of intern/trainee and secondees from Member organisations.
Requirements

• Relevant experience in the international not-for-profit sector.
• Ability to cope with complex parallel processes, keeping a good overview and setting the right priorities.
• Ability to cope with a high workload and to meet tight deadlines.
• Self motivated, diligent, reliable and focused way of working.
• Strong communication skills and service orientation.
• Fluency in English.
We offer…
• A thorough insight into the management and governance of the world’s leading ICSOs as well as a sound understanding of the challenges they face and ways to improve accountability.
• The possibility to assist and shape further developments of the only cross-sectoral global accountability initiative, geared to improve the effectiveness of the world’s leading ICSOs.
