Organ: The Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) is responsible for the organization and coordination of the work of the Telecommunication Development Sector of the Union (the Union has three functional sectors: Standardization, Radiocommunication and Development) which deals mainly with development policies, strategies, programming, as well as technical cooperation activities (expert missions, training programmes, field projects, seminars, etc.). |
Duties / Responsibilities |
In the office of the Director and under the supervision of the Communication and Promotion Officer, the incumbent:
Proactively scrutinizes press briefings and news on a daily basis and carries out desk research on all political, economical and financial issues and prepares press briefings highlighting the impact on the work of BDT, and ITU at large.
Collects data and information on success stories from regulators, operators, services providers, consumers and any other data related to the domain of telecommunications/ICT and how they impact socio-economic development and the work of BDT.
Assists the Communication and Promotion Officer in establishing and maintaining pro-active, effective and dynamic relations with the ITU- Sector's members, the ICT industry, and other organizations with a view to communicate and/or seek their support to communicate the achievements of the ITU-D, demonstrate the value of its work and provide coherence, focus and direction to its message in order to strengthen support for its activities and enhance the depth of breadth of its membership.
Prepares and ensures the update of membership briefings (Member States, Sector Members and Academia Members) as well as briefings on organizations and private sectors when need arises in close collaboration with the field offices and the Partnership and Promotion Division.
Assist the Communication and Promotion Officer in drafting ITU-D communication and promotion texts such as newsletters, blogs, tweets, positioning statements, speeches relevant target corporate audiences.
Assists in the coordination of the work on design, graphics and production of all relevant communication materials and develops communication and promotion products as appropriate.
Keeps abreast of the communication and information activities of other ITU Sectors and contribute to developing joint communication campaigns as appropriate.
Assist the Communication and Promotion Officer in drafting and reviewing web content provided by other ITU staff or external sources.
Performs additional activities/tasks in relation with his/her field of competency that may be assigned to him/her by the Communication and Promotion Officer.

Qualifications required |
Education: University degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public or international relations political, social sciences, liberal arts or a related field OR education in a reputed college of advanced education, with a diploma of equivalent standard to that of a university degree in one of the fields above. |
Experience: At least three years of progressively responsible experience as a writer, editor, reporter, paper or web based press or communication officer. An advanced degree in a related field can be considered as a substitute for one year of working experience. A doctorate in related fields can be considered as a substitute for two years of working experience. |
Languages: Knowledge of one of the six official languages of the Union (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish) at advanced level and knowledge of a second official language at intermediate level. Knowledge of a third official language would be an advantage. (Under the provisions of Resolution No. 626 of the Council, a relaxation of the language requirements may be authorized in the case of candidates from developing countries: when candidates from such countries possess a thorough knowledge of one of the official languages of the Union, their applications may be taken into consideration.) |

Remuneration |
Annual Salary: (Net of Tax) 92,311.- USD - 118,237.- USD without dependants 98,417.- USD - 126,784.- USD with dependants
