Established in 1915 with Helen Keller as a founding trustee, Helen Keller International (HKI) works to save the sight and lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. HKI Tanzania conducts programs in Vitamin A Supplementation, Orange Flesh Sweet Potato, Trachoma control, Food fortification, Enhanced Homestead Food Production, nationwide and/or at regional and district level, in collaboration with Tanzanian government, local NGO is and other national and international development partners. The office has 40 employees, 26 in the Dar office and 14 in two sub-offices in Mwanza and Mtwara.

Background and Scope of the Position:
At the country level in Tanzania, HKI partners with the Ministry of Health is Neglected Tropical Diseases Program, the National Eye Care Program and the Tanzania Institute of Education in implementing a comprehensive strategy to eliminate trachoma by 2020. Currently, in Tanzania the Conrad N Hilton Foundation and the Heart to Heart foundation are financially supporting the implementation of the Trachoma Elimination strategy.
As such the coordinator is responsible for working and coordinating with national, regional and district health authorities to ensure the full implementation of the SAFE strategy for the elimination of blinding trachoma by 2020 in target areas. He/she will achieve this through writing proposals, sourcing funds and building the country programme.
Reports directly to: Deputy Country Director Programs
Collaborates with: National NTD program, Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoHSW) Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE), Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MoEVT), International NGOisand donors.
Support from: NTD department at HKI-Head Quarters
Major Tasks and Activities:
Provides support to the National NTD Program in monitoring and evaluation of Tanzania is trachoma elimination objectives, including assistance with mapping/impact studies, completion of a national trachoma database, and oversight of surgical quality.
Build and maintain partnerships and relationships with a range of state and non-state actors working inNTD.
Lead project planning, management and implementation.
Develop a monitoring and evaluation plan and ensure monitoring, supervision and documentation of project activities.
Oversee the administrative and financial management of the project.
Develop concept papers and proposals and actively fundraise to expand HKlis efforts in NTDis Data management, data analysis and reporting.
Oversee the development of training materials, job aids, communication materials and any other materials required for the program.
Conduct, facilitate and supervise trainings in collaboration with national, regional and district officials.
Maintain strong working relationship with government counterparts including National NTD program and TIE, and other key partners.
Represent the HKI eye health and neglected tropical diseases programs in formal and informal meetings with government officials, international donor agencies, technical advisory groups, NGOs and other organizations.
Oversee the generation of concept papers, lessons learned documents, proposals and other documents as needed for submission to donors and others for fundraising, marketing and advocacy purposes.
Identify new areas for program expansion, assist with developing proposals, sourcing funding and strengthening the country program strategy.
Skills/Knowledge Required:
Medical degree and preferable master degree in public health or social science.
Five years experience in eye care, neglected tropical diseases, public health or a related field. Ability to work effectively with communities, government and NGO partners.
Good understanding of program management, administration and budgeting and report writing.
