At the World Society for the Protection of Animals, we have worked to expose animal cruelty and prevent animal suffering for more than 30 years. Working with individuals, organisations and governments across the globe, our campaigns range from ending the mass suffering of industrially farmed animals to protecting animals in disasters. Consultative status with the United Nations means we have a unique international platform to prove that the lives of animals are inextricably linked to our own, and now more than ever is the time to stop their suffering.
Animal welfare is not a ‘stand-alone’ issue; it impacts on and is affected by climate change, food security, development and poverty issues and WSPA is setting its sights on building partnerships with INGOs, businesses and government organisations that work in these fields. We are recruiting staff who are experienced in developing networks at the highest level across a range of disciplines and can see the connections between animal welfare and wider sustainability issues.
Our successes to date and ambitious plans for the future are supported by hundreds of thousands of people, governments, international institutions and businesses in almost every country. We have a clear strategy to ensure we influence major decisions makers across Africa to understand and improve welfare for all animals and we are determined to see progress and improvements across the continent.
Our Africa regional office in Nairobi has recently opened and builds on our successful work in Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Namibia and Uganda and other African countries. Working with our International office based in London, we are expanding and investing in the development of a regional structure to maximise opportunities for Africa working across all areas of our global strategy. The Africa team will also work with regional colleagues in Europe, North and South America, and Asia Pacific to realise our ambition of a joined-up organisation: One WSPA.
We are currently recruiting for a Companion Animal Campaign Manager to support the Programme Director in the development of WSPA's regional Companion Animal and Inhumane Culling (IHC) strategy, and will design and implement campaigns and projects in Africa that progress this area of work towards meeting its objectives.
