Chief Mining Engineer -North Mara Gold Mine

The Chief Mine Engineer is responsible for strategic, long and short term Mine Planning, Mine Design and Mine Production. The position is a leadership role and so is accountable for ensuring that the Senior Mining Engineers are supported to ensure quality delivery of plans and schedules in a timely manner that are in line with the monthly plan and budget.

Safety	· Instill the culture of safety at North Mara Mining. Lead by example, and provide visible access of himself to the employees. · Must ensure department’s adherence to safety protocols All SOP’s. Procedures must be up to date, distributed, implemented and practiced by all mine department employees Barrick’s Contractor Safety Management Policy must be in place, well understood and followed through on Barrick’s Safety philosophy – Field Level Risk Assessment (FLRA) must be established and practiced
Continuous Improvement	· Establish Mining’s structure and resources are in place to cultivate a positive response to Improvement initiatives and processes. Match CI efforts to gaps between production targets and reality. Be proactive to Improve within the Mining Team. Create an attitude of awareness to recognize and utilize continuous improvement initiatives and processes on a daily basis
Barrick Core Values	· Develop mission and vision for the mining group with respect to the core values. Ensure the dissemination of this vision to supervisors and crews when spending time with the employees, discuss core values and safety together
Environmental	· Ensure compliance with environmental management practices that minimise the impact of the operation on the environment. · Ensure compliance with all contractual, statutory and regulatory requirements · Ensure all activities of employees and contractors are carried out in accordance with the Barrick environmental management plan · Ensure that all necessary governmental permits required for mining operations to carry on are acquired · Ensure zero tolerance reporting within the Mine Department
People Management	· Manage the Department’s Human Resource by setting clear performance objectives and by providing regular feedback. · Review performance of group heads in accordance with company Talent Review process · Mentor group heads to ensure personnel management is consistent throughout each area of Mining. · Prevent favouritism and nepotism. · Manage a Succession Planning process that ensures that North Mara’s commitments to the Tanzanian government with respect to the development of Tanzanian employees to allow them to assume positions of increasing accountability are achieved
Production	Provide technical support to ensure Mine Production and cost budgets are timely, reliable, and realistic. Develop KPI’s to proactively monitor Mining performance Ensure each mine department employee recognizes the value of their individual contributions – has quantified personal targets and understands them Install a Sense of Urgency between Mine Engineering, Mine Maintenance and Production to lead North Mara’s success Supervise the Dispatch coordinator to ensure that Dispatch System (Jigsaw) is utilised effectively to optimise mine productivity.
Planning	Ensure open pit optimisation and designs are completed to the Barrick standards and requirements. Ensure the preparation of annual Budget and Life of Mine (LOM) plan and ensure that all corporate requirements are adhered to. Work in co-operation with the Geology Department for reporting of mid and end of the year Ore Reserves. Reviewing on a regular basis the Life of Mine (LOM) defining mining strategies to ensure that the stated corporate objectives are achieved. Ensure Mine Plans are timely, reliable, and realistic. Ensure the engineering staff developing the plan has correct operational parameters as inputs – and operations staff own the plan once finalized Display a proactive Sense of Urgency to respond to production shortfalls, and deliver on recovery plans Provide inputs to support functions to operations (drill designs, drilling QA/QC feedback, Mine2Mill, etc) Open pit designs and scheduling for all pits Compilation of set of long term mine plans for each pit detailing all activities per period (quarters or annuals) Presentation of plan for approval/execution Ensure the plan reflects all the audited inputs (e.g. geotechnical slope criteria, cost, revenues, earthmoving productivities, etc) Supervising medium and short term planners to take long term plans and translates into tactical short term plan for implementation in line with company’s objectives Mining options analysis to continuously improve designs and operations Mining progress monitoring by providing regular reconciliation to approved plan and highlighting deviations to give assurance to Mining Manager that the short to medium plan will be achieved and highlighting any risks to achieving the business plan. Ensuring mine planning systems (software and procedures) and skills required are in-place
Cost Management	Provide the Mining Manager with regular cost reports to assist in managing the Mining area with financial diligence through. Managing the budgeting process with extreme diligence. Detail and backup for assumptions must be demanded from each contributor Ensuring a rigorous monthly cost review is completed, and variance analysis is delivered by each Group Head to the Mining Manager, and from Mining to the Production Manager Manage business processes in compliance to the Company Code of Ethics and compliance to the Sarbenes-Oxley (SOX) law and standards.

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS

Education Requirements:

• Degree in Mining Engineering.
• A minimum of 10 years relevant experience in the mining industry in large open pit operations utilising excavators and large trucks.
