The Chief Mine Engineer is responsible for strategic, long and short term Mine Planning, Mine Design and Mine Production. The position is a leadership role and so is accountable for ensuring that the Senior Mining Engineers are supported to ensure quality delivery of plans and schedules in a timely manner that are in line with the monthly plan and budget.

Production | - Provide technical support to ensure Mine Production and cost budgets are timely, reliable, and realistic.
- Develop KPI’s to proactively monitor Mining performance
- Ensure each mine department employee recognizes the value of their individual contributions – has quantified personal targets and understands them
- Install a Sense of Urgency between Mine Engineering, Mine Maintenance and Production to lead North Mara’s success
- Supervise the Dispatch coordinator to ensure that Dispatch System (Jigsaw) is utilised effectively to optimise mine productivity.

Planning | - Ensure open pit optimisation and designs are completed to the Barrick standards and requirements.
- Ensure the preparation of annual Budget and Life of Mine (LOM) plan and ensure that all corporate requirements are adhered to.
- Work in co-operation with the Geology Department for reporting of mid and end of the year Ore Reserves.
- Reviewing on a regular basis the Life of Mine (LOM) defining mining strategies to ensure that the stated corporate objectives are achieved.
- Ensure Mine Plans are timely, reliable, and realistic.
- Ensure the engineering staff developing the plan has correct operational parameters as inputs – and operations staff own the plan once finalized
- Display a proactive Sense of Urgency to respond to production shortfalls, and deliver on recovery plans
- Provide inputs to support functions to operations (drill designs, drilling QA/QC feedback, Mine2Mill, etc)
- Open pit designs and scheduling for all pits
- Compilation of set of long term mine plans for each pit detailing all activities per period (quarters or annuals)
- Presentation of plan for approval/execution
- Ensure the plan reflects all the audited inputs (e.g. geotechnical slope criteria, cost, revenues, earthmoving productivities, etc)
- Supervising medium and short term planners to take long term plans and translates into tactical short term plan for implementation in line with company’s objectives
- Mining options analysis to continuously improve designs and operations
- Mining progress monitoring by providing regular reconciliation to approved plan and highlighting deviations to give assurance to Mining Manager that the short to medium plan will be achieved and highlighting any risks to achieving the business plan.
- Ensuring mine planning systems (software and procedures) and skills required are in-place

Cost Management | Provide the Mining Manager with regular cost reports to assist in managing the Mining area with financial diligence through. - Managing the budgeting process with extreme diligence. Detail and backup for assumptions must be demanded from each contributor
- Ensuring a rigorous monthly cost review is completed, and variance analysis is delivered by each Group Head to the Mining Manager, and from Mining to the Production Manager
- Manage business processes in compliance to the Company Code of Ethics and compliance to the Sarbenes-Oxley (SOX) law and standards.

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
Education Requirements:
- Degree in Mining Engineering.
- A minimum of 10 years relevant experience in the mining industry in large open pit operations utilising excavators and large trucks.
