Description Working within the Policy Influence and Advocacy Integration department, the primary purpose of the Gender Integration and Advocacy Advisor is to support WVC to develop and implement quality programs that promote gender equality and contribute to the achievement of key child well being outcomes. The Gender Integration and Advocacy Advisor will guide the integration of gender equality into programmatic interventions, into grants and into public facing processes.
Key Job Functions • Provide overall strategic leadership and direction to World Vision Canada (WVC) staff on gender equality and related key concepts. • Coordinate Advocacy, Policy Research & Public Awareness on gender equality and gender justice. Be responsible for promoting gender integration in WVC supported field programs as well as in grants. • Convene a representative Gender Working Group to support and advise on the gender equality work in WVC.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Minimum of an undergraduate degree (post graduate preferred) completed in gender studies. • Minimum 5 years program experience in international development with a focus on women, girls and gender equality. • Strong technical capacity, practical experience and solid insight into program level challenges in designing and implementing gender sensitive international development programs. • Thorough knowledge of World Vision’s approach to achieving child well-being through relief, development and advocacy. • A good knowledge of gender and global development issues, preferably within a World Vision context. • Demonstrated experience conducting program-based gender analysis, preferably using participatory methodologies. • Biblical understanding of human rights and justice focused advocacy. • Comprehension of rights based approaches to development, with particular knowledge in women's rights and child rights. • Commitment to World Vision's Vision, Mission and Values.
Other requirements to consider: • Proven experience developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating advocacy gender projects and programs. • Proven training experience in advocacy strategies for addressing gender inequality and in advocacy capacity building. • High-level conceptual and analytical skills with ability to summarize complex issues clearly. • Ability to build and promote constructive internal and external relationships-strong collaborative skills. • Excellent communication and presentation skills both oral and written for internal and external audiences. • Flexible, self-starter, sense of humour, team player, attention to detail, able to work without supervision. • Able to work to deadlines and prioritize work effectively. • Able to delegate effectively and plan and supervise the work of others. • Able to coordinate effectively with field offices and partner organizations and promote constructive relationships. • Ability to apply Christian foundations and perspectives on social justice issues. • Ability to work in cross-cultural environment. • Excellent English language skills (French and/or Spanish additional).
