Purpose:
Under the guidance of the Senior Education Specialist and direct supervision of the Education Specialist (Education and Peacebuilding Programme Manager), you will lead all knowledge management, evidence building and documentation activities for the Education and Peacebuilding Programme at HQ level with support to Regional Offices and Country Offices in the programme as needed to facilitate achievement of all five programme outcomes, with specific attention to outcome 5 (knowledge generation).
Qualification:
Advanced Degree in Knowledge/Information Management, or Education with an information management component, or other related fields.* Five years of relevant work experience at the national and international levels in programme management, education, peacebuilding, information management or a related field. Experience in education sector planning, analysis, monitoring and evaluation in conflict affected contexts is a particular advantage. Fluency in English and another UN language.
*A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Key Expected Results:
1.Description of responsibility: Knowledge Generation and Evidence Building Under the Direction of the Programme Manager develop and implement a strategy for knowledge generation and evidence building. Ensure that research and evidence building activities are comprehensive and cover needs and Outcomes 1 to 4 as well as overall advocacy, communication and reporting needs of the programme. Ensure research findings are communicated to UNICEF and other development partners, so as to strengthen the evidence-based programming on education and peacebuilding. End Result(s): Generation and sharing of knowledge on education and peacebuilding in terms of Outcome 5 met, and support for implementation of Outcomes 1 to 4 of the programme.
2.Description of responsibility: Knowledge Management Coordinate the knowledge management requirements of the Education and Peacebuilding Programme, including design, development, and continual refinement of products/instruments for identifying, generating, sorting, retrieving, validating, sharing and disseminating information in a more efficient and effective manner; maintaining a comprehensive database of reports, good practices, lessons, policy and programme innovations on education and peacebuilding, including strategy documents from partners and donors, tools for conflict analyses, case studies, etc.; and facilitating the dissemination of information using various channels for use by programme stakeholders to inform programming, policy and advocacy work. End Result(s): All UNICEF education staff and relevant stakeholders in the Education and Peacebuilding Programme and other interest groups have ready access to relevant and up-to-date information and data needed for policy development, programme implementation and achievement of programme outcomes.
3.Description of responsibility: Reporting Support the Programme Manager to meet donor and other reporting needs; includes support for organizing Annual Review meetings; contribution to Section Annual Reports, etc. Draft relevant sections of statutory reports (annual reports, donor reports, management, etc.) and publications; and verify accuracy, timeliness and appropriateness of education and peacebuilding information in overall reports. End Result(s): Timely and accurate reporting as required by the programme.
4.Description of responsibility: Liaison with DOC on Advocacy and Communication Working with the Programme Manager and DOC develop and rollout the programme advocacy and communication strategy. Includes work with DOC to regularly update and maintain Education and Peacebuilding (E and P) website; share evidence and documentation that is relevant for external communication and public advocacy; hosting of dissemination events and other related activities. End Result(s): Website updated with latest information, evidence and documentation shared with relevant audiences.
5.Description of responsibility: Integration of Programme Knowledge and Systems into Section Activities and in UNICEF in particular related to level 3 monitoring. Facilitate integration and use of Programme knowledge among other Section Hubs, and with other UNICEF Sections and Divisions. Will involve support for brown bags, discussions, workshops, etc. within UNICEF and externally, frequent contribution to internal communication platforms, such as ICON/Sharepoint. Includes synthesizing information from level 3 monitoring processes. End Result(s): Programme lessons and experiences strengthen implementation of education and equity strategy.
