Organisation: International Campaign to Ban Landmines and Cluster Munition Coalition (ICBL-CMC) Location: Geneva Duration: Temporary, 3-12 months according to availability
The ICBL-CMC is currently looking for interns in its Geneva-based office to provide support to a small and dynamic team.
The ICBL and the CMC are global networks of civil society organisations working across some 100 countries to end the harm caused by landmines and cluster munitions. The Landmine and Cluster Munition Monitor is a joint initiative of the ICBL-CMC and provides the most up-to-date and relevant information on and assessment of the international community’s response to the problems caused by landmines, cluster munitions, and other explosive remnants of war.
Internship description These internship positions provide an exciting opportunity to develop research, policy, campaigning, operational, communications and networking skills. The interns will be exposed to a wide range of organisations and individuals – including an international network of campaigners, as well as representatives of governments and international organisations.
The support we get from interns is invaluable and we could not function without them throughout the year. The interns will be required to provide proactive support and input to the work of the ICBL-CMC and Monitor staff members.

We are looking for candidates that are interested in one or more of the following areas of work:
Policy • Collecting information relating to the State Parties to the Mine Ban Treaty and to the Convention on Cluster Munitions • Sending official mail to Government
Monitoring and Researching • Updating the websites with information on Country Profiles, Landmine Monitor, and Cluster Munition Monitor • Researching, updating and compiling information in databases
Campaign and Communications • Compiling quarterly newsletters in English and reports on campaigning activities • Updating the websites and providing assistance in monitoring and maintaining the social networking presence for both campaigns (Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube) • Assisting in developing materials or organizing events for awareness-raising purposes, particularly for the international meetings taking place in Geneva • Drafting and preparing mail-out of letters to government officials • Responding to requests from campaigners and members of the public for information
Logistics and Administration • Assist in the logistical preparations of international meetings taking place in Geneva or abroad • Assist in drafting informative documents including translation of documents from English to French or Spanish and vice versa • Compiling information in databases • Supporting the office tasks at the international meetings in Geneva such as scheduling meetings, responding to printing requests, assisting campaigners and overseeing the material booths
Qualifications ICBL-CMC is looking for individuals who are studying for or have completed a university degree and who are interested in pursuing a career in campaigning, politics, journalism, international relations or a related field. In addition, the successful candidates will have: • Strong motivation and demonstrate interest in disarmament, human rights and humanitarian issues • Strong written and oral communications skills in English • Very good knowledge of another language, particularly French, Spanish and/or Arabic is an asset • Excellent organizational and analytical skills as well as attention to detail • Very good computer skills, including knowledge and experience in all Microsoft Office software (Powerpoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc) • Experience of website content management systems is an asset • The ability to work as part of a team, as well as being proactive and working well under low supervision and to tight deadlines
Conditions Internships are unpaid and preference will be given to interns of Swiss or European nationalities, or persons already in possession of a Swiss work/residency permit. Foreign students studying in Switzerland are allowed to work or to intern, up to twenty hours per week.
Unfortunately the ICBL-CMC is not in a position to offer any financial remuneration to interns. All interns are responsible for all expenses and costs incurred in undertaking an internship with the ICBL-CMC, including travel and health insurance.
