Background
The Open Government Partnership is a new multilateral initiative that aims to secure concrete commitments from governments to promote transparency, empower citizens, fight corruption, and harness new technologies to strengthen governance. In the spirit of multi-stakeholder collaboration, OGP is overseen by a steering committee of governments and civil society organizations. The Open Government Partnership formally launched on September 20, 2011, when the 8 founding governments (Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Norway, Philippines, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States) endorsed an Open Government Declaration, and announced their country action plans, and welcomed the commitment of 39 governments to join the Partnership.
Position description
OGP is looking for a dynamic, self-motivated individual with strong experience in the governance sector to serve as Program Officer at the OGP Support Unit. The OGP Support Unit is a small team dedicated to supporting the day-to-day operations of the Open Government Partnership in tandem with the OGP Co-Chairs.
Responsibilities:
• Supporting the OGP co-chairs in preparing for and managing Steering Committee sessions, working-level events and the annual OGP meeting
• Supporting outreach to current OGP participants and aspiring OGP governments
• Conducting outreach and building strong relationships with civil society, the private sector, sub-national and multi-lateral entities
• Liaising with the OGP Networking mechanism
• Helping develop new programs such as OGP’s Independent Reporting Mechanism
• Collecting and information and updates on OGP implementation and SC activities internally and externally
• Supporting media outreach
• Providing support for the OGP’s continued institutional development and operations, including through policy drafting/research and donor outreach and reporting
• Supporting and documenting lessons-learned across OGP chairmanships
• Providing other strategic advice and support as needed
Requirements:
• Advanced degree or equivalent experience in international affairs or relevant field (e.g. political science, law, economics)
• A minimum of 5-7 years experience in the governance field, with a focus on transparency and accountability-related initiatives
• Experience working with/for international multi-stakeholder governance initiatives
• Experience undertaking high-level advocacy and outreach with governments, the private sector, international financial institutions and the donor community
• Ability to work flexibly and independently on tight timelines with a wide range of team members around the world
• Strong writing and presentation skills
• Some management experience, including strategic planning, fundraising, budget oversight and board relations highly desirable
• Proficiency in multiple languages highly desirable
• A strong familiarity with international and local civil society networks working on governance issues across a range of sectors highly desirable
• Proven ability to think strategically, innovate, learn fast and interact with a multitude of stakeholders, and deliver outcomes
• Possess exceptional interpersonal skills, including relationship building, communication skills, and partnership development
