This position works closely with and reports to the HIV testing and counseling team lead.. He /She is responsible for the provision of counseling and testing services at the DISC or during mobile outreach sessions.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specifically, the HTC counselor is responsible for but not limited to:
- Provide counseling and testing services at the DISC and during outreach sessions while adhering to the approved protocols.
- Provide Risk assessment and risk reduction counseling for clients.
- Ensure effective operation of the site in the standards required and maintain a clean and well-arranged work station.
- Create effective awareness on hygiene and health services.
- Ensure maintenance of adequate stocks as well as safe custody of commodities and supplies.
- Participate in regular counselor supervision sessions.
- Participate in all quality assurance activities within the site.
- Prepare timely site reports and submit to the HTC team lead.
- Maintain up to date data record.
- Participate in planning and budgeting for HTC activities.
- Provide appropriate referral.
Partnership with government agencies and other stake holders
- Work closely with the DASCO to facilitate support supervision and mentorship.
- Submit timely service utilization and commodity consumption reports to the DASCO and DMLT
- Work closely with other service providers to facilitate effective referral for health services.
Monitoring, Evaluation Reporting and learning
- Collection of quality HTC data using national and internal data collection tools.
- Document lessons learnt and challenges to inform program decisions.
- Compile and submit timely monthly and quarterly reports to the HIV counseling and testing team lead.
- Store client data appropriately to ensure confidentiality is maintained.
The minimum required academic and professional skills for the jobholder to perform successfully in this position include:
- Certificate in Basic counselling
- HTC certificate from a recognized training institution approved by NASCOP.
- 6 months experience working in a busy HTC site. Experience working with MARPs is desired.
- Experience in providing HTC services at outreach sites.
- Good oral and written communication skills (English and Swahili)
- Computer literacy in the use of MS Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook is desired
- Ability to work and deliver results with minimum supervision
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team player.
