Role and Responsibilities
To ensure quality medical services for assigned health programme (clinic supervision and training). To improve the overall health situation by providing creative and focused health promotion to the target population. To build the capacity of the local health team by providing technical support to national medical staff. To cover, if needed, during the absence of the Health Advisor.
Project Overview
A relief response to the needs of approx 330,000 IDPs and war-affected people in West Darfur state: provision of PHC, reproductive health, public health promotion, improved water quality and access, and support of latrine construction.

Key activity areas
Project Management
• Ensure the high quality performance of the 27 Medair supported clinics in West Darfur. • Provide community and camp liaison representing Medair, ensuring Medair’s good standing with the community and building strong relationships with camp coordinators and other relevant NGOs. • Conduct fieldtrips to clinic sites for support and supervision. • Monitor and improve the impact of the assigned programme in line with verifiable indicators through clinic assessments and focus group discussions. • Ensure capacity building and support to Village Health Committees. • Ensure increased knowledge about healthy behaviour by providing creative health promotion activities. • Oversee process to ensure Weekly Morbidity and Mortality forms received from each clinic, entered accurately into EPI Info database and forms sent in a timely manner to World Health Organisation (WHO). • Providing input into strategic planning for the Medical Programme in West Darfur as requested.
Staff Management
• Responsible for supervision, coaching / mentoring and appropriate training to national staff in assigned programmes to help them grow more in their supervisory role over the assigned clinics. Administration / Communication / Logistics • Carry out administration related to the areas of responsibility. • Ensure correct and timely ordering of all necessary supplies for assigned clinics. • Ensure that all medical supplies in assigned clinics are stored and distributed correctly.
Security Management
• Be aware of security procedures and guidelines in place, abide by them and ensure that other staff are aware of and follow them. Input into the security management of assigned clinic situations.
Quality Management
• Ensuring the all standardised formats are used and guidelines followed. • Aim to adhere to Sphere standards, MoH guidelines and HAP principles and other relevant good practice.
Qualifications
• Registered nurse with experience in tropical medicine • Certificate/diploma in tropical medicine desirable; Masters in Public Health desirable • Security training desirable
Experience / Competencies
• 1 year’s work experience in PHC in emergency situations or 1 year’s project management experience • 1 year experience in leadership position • 1 year of overseas experience in relief projects • Excellent organisational and communication skills • Aptitude in a consultative approach • Experience and willingness in training/mentoring staff • Good negotiation skills, especially in the context of another culture • Willingness to deal with donors and government officials • Proactive and dynamic • High professional commitment to providing appropriate care based on needs based approach • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills • Willingness to participate and share in regular team events (spiritual and social) • Willingness to learn and to be stretched, professionally, personally & spiritually • Ability to work in a fast changing and unstable situation, following security guidelines at all times • Develop and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, beneficiaries, other agencies and local authorities • Good report writing skills

• Committed to Medair values • Reflect the vision and values of Medair when interacting with team members, local staff, beneficiaries and external contacts • At least one year of professional experience in a relevant field (more experience preferred) • Minimum 3 months inter-cultural overseas experience • Willing to commit to Medair for a minimum of one year • Single, or married (without dependent children) • Aged 25 - 55 generally preferred • Strong working knowledge of English (oral and written) • Working knowledge of French (oral and written) for French speaking field programmes • Competent with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook • Able to live and work with a multicultural team under difficult conditions • Strong character traits, including emotional stability, adaptability, ability to handle stress, cultural and gender sensitivity, honesty, and physically fit • Successful completion of Medair Relief & Rehabilitation Orientation Course (ROC)

Working Conditions
El Geneina is a remote town in West Darfur, without continuous electricity. Travel for field trips is limited and currently by helicopter. Darfur is in a situation of complex and dynamic insecurity. Medair’s security strategy is built around “acceptance” by local actors and a constant awareness of the security situation is essential.
