Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is a Tanzania-based non-governmental Institute with a mission of developing and sustaining Health Research and Resource Institute capable of generating new knowledge and relevant information for public health policy and action. IHI is one of the leading research outfits in Africa maintaining collaboration with several other research Institutes in the world.
Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) in collaboration with Zanzibar Malaria Elimination Programme (ZAMEP), Tulane University, and the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute will conduct a malaria research study to evaluate the currently implemented surveillance-response strategy in Zanzibar. This project aims at contributing to the elimination of malaria in Zanzibar by providing evidence to improve the surveillance response strategy. Specifically, the project will address the following objectives: 1) To determine the effective coverage of the surveillance-response system; 2) To evaluate the surveillance-response system and identify potential improvements; and 3) To estimate the cost and cost-effectiveness of the system. Therefore, IHI is looking for qualified personnel to cover for the posts of Field Supervisors.

Duties and Responsibilities:
To introduce the field team to shehia/village leaders and District Malaria Surveillance Officers (DMSO) where necessary.
Identifying sample of households for the household survey using procedures outlined in the sampling guidelines.
Locate households and obtain consent for subsequent interview.
Check each interviewer has a well-functioning kit.
Review data compiled every day for quality assurance.
Re-interview 1-2 households each day for quality control assessment.
Inform the Project Coordinator of any problems as soon as possible.
Report to the Field Coordinator about progress of activities in the evening of each working day.
Conduct meeting with interviewers for feedback and way forward.
Collect information using tablets.
To ensure protection, rights, safety and well-being of the study participants.
To ensure the study is done according to the research ethical guidelines.
To ensure that participant's privacy and confidentiality are maintained.
To ensure the availability and safety of necessary equipment for data collection.
Retain high level of public and community support and trust, e.g. in relation to research ethics and
effective communication.
Respond to queries, concerns and issues raised by the Coordinator/Principal Investigator/Investigators.
Undertake any other tasks that the Coordinator/Principal Investigator/Investigators shall reasonably
require from time to time.
Qualifications and experience:
Form IV/VI and Diploma in Social Science or any related field.
Prior field experience and supervision experience is an added advantage.
Skills and competence:
Ability to work successfully in a team.
Fluent in both Swahili and English.
